Schwinn bikes ( post pics here )

My 2 cents: I've done only a couple minor changes to this one: White grips and seat, rubbing compound on all paint, oh and that sweet bell. 1957 Spitfire Spitfire in Petaluma by curlywolf, on Flickr...

    '57 Schwinn Spitfire

Re: '52 Schwinn Spitfire Good eye Udall. Since you called that, I did a little searching and I've referenced the link below for the production year by serial number (B38876). Since the serial number has only 5 numerals, I think it's falls as early as March 1952 as this guide reads or as late...

I broke down and built a fixie...

Dude, the difference is insane. Since the above photos were taken, (current one below) I have added the freewheel cog and am currently running it. It has just 2 teeth more than the fixed cog (16t fixed, 18t freewheel) and in the first few miles I was even noticing my cadence had increased. But a...

    FINISHED MY ROAD WEAPON TODAY

Don't take my comment the wrong way. I meant its amazing they have maintained such great condition 60 years later. They are both good-looking bikes. Well done.

    FINISHED MY ROAD WEAPON TODAY

Very cool. Nice color scheme and sweet pinstripes on the frame. I used bars with similar shape on my recent build.(Are you sure that paint is from the 40's??) (Also, I had that same gear ratio on mine till I went freewheel, now 52 - 18. Its actually quite noticeable in cadence.)

    Paint or Patina?

I'm glad you decided to leave it as is. It looks great with that finish. (You get the idea about the seat, so I won't go there.)

If it ain' broke, don't fix it.

There are so many people taking old road frames and converting them to fixed gears. While I enjoy the clean lines and simplicity of them I don't see the functionality as a daily-use machine. So I built a bike that has the look and well... brakes! I just 'finished' a 70's Fuji road frame. When I...
