    Resurrected Rolfast!

Very nice job. Skip link chains have a master link. You just flex the chain to take the pressure off the side plate and force it off with a thin bladed screwdriver.

    Lady's Rollfast.

I have a boys bike badged as a Hawthorne with the same springer. According to the catalog reprints I have seen, it is a 1958.

    1953 Schwinn Speedster

Please post the serial number and maybe we can figure it out. There are a couple Schwinn serial numbers charts out there with some errors. According to some on-line sources, the first year for the Speedster was 1959.

    Tecumseh Rambler

You may have problems with it over heating if you strip it down. Many of those small engines are designed so the flywheel fins move air under the shrouds to cool the engine.

    1953 Schwinn Speedster

A very nice job and a beautiful restoration, but I don't think the bike is as old as you think. If it was a 1953, the wheels would be S2's and I'm betting they are S7. Schwinn made things confusing by using similar serial numbers in different locations.

Removing Solid Core Schwinn Exerciser Tires from S2 Rims

I might add that you have to drill a hole for the valve stem to use it with a tube.

1959 Columbia Jet Rider & 1966 Schwinn Panther & others

I have 2 of the coppertone S seats, but they aren't the best looking. I have heard you can use white vinyl paint on them but I've never tried it. http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l58 ... /seats.jpg

If you get into that Bendix 2 speed and find you need a replacement part, I have most of them available.

Closed dropouts on my old fork- how do you deal with these?

My Elgin King has a fork like that. I just put one end of the axle through the hole and then spread the fork to get the other side in place. I also know of guys who thread the axle back almost flush on one side and then screw it back through the hole in the fork and adjust it evenly.

    Wish me luck! - UPDATE

I got a Monark Rocket, Schwinn straightbar and Sears Spyder, all of which I needed for projects with parts I already have. I also got a 20 inch Iverson for resale. My friend got the one with the half tank, which was a Colson, and several lightweight and middleweight Schwinns. He also got a Mead...

This is what it looked like in the barn loft. We had to lower the bikes out the window. http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l58 ... nbikes.jpg http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l58 ... bikes2.jpg

    jc higgins bike frame help

It is possible they were using up left over Elgin parts after the war and put the Higgins badge on it. I have heard of that happening before.

    jc higgins bike frame help

It is an Elgin, which is what they called JC Higgins bikes made before WWII. The bent seat post is a clue to the year, but I can't remember what years it was made. I'm sure somone does and they will chime in.

    Wish me luck! - UPDATE

Well, the guy didn't have 700 bikes, more like 150 or so, but my friend and I did buy 16 of the better ones. A lot of them were 10 speed road bikes which didn't interest us. I also picked up some headllights and shift levers. I don't have any way to put up photos now, but will when I get home...

    Wish me luck! - UPDATE

Hopefully I will have some fresh finds to report when I get home next weekend. I am supposed to meet up with a gentleman who claims he has over 700 bikes stored in a building on his property. I have no idea what they are or if his prices will be such that I can buy anything. I am keeping my...
