Great finds. Schwinn didn't use a capitol "I" because they figured it would get confused for a one. You may have to take some more paint off the bottom bracket at the serial number to get a clearer view of the number. Schwinn moved the serial numbers from the BB to the left rear dropout in 1952...

Looks as though someone,at some point in time,added the AMF stuff.I've had a lot of Western Flyers but I have never seen that head badge before...that badge may be worth what you paid for the bike!(?) KOOL SCORE! Personally,I'd lose the '60's AMF stuff and have the gang here at RatRod Bikes help...

Thanx dogdart...BTW,still looking for a set of correct tanks for this one. I also will be putting on a set of the Monark "deep" fenders & a different headlight. I sold my '62 Schwinn American at the El Torreon swap so the Nexus 7 speed coaster will more than most likely end up on this...

Finally got my Monark springer repaired.Bought it at the Hayesville,KS. Swap (Thanx pick!) It was off a girls bike with a bent steer tube...aren't they all?!? So I removed the old steer tube COMPLETELY, brazed in a donor tube with about 3" of conveyor shaft,drilled & tapped for fender mounting...
