    Low 'N Ratty

Re: Quik 'N Ratty: Channelling Big Daddy Thanks! I used my tubing roller to do it. There's a bit of flex there when I sit on it, but, I haven't put a chain on and ridden it, so that will be the test. The fender is bolted to the seat too, so, hopefully they work together to give me all the...

    Low 'N Ratty

Re: Quik 'N Ratty: Channelling Big Daddy Thank you! I want to add some more details to the frame, and then something on the fender. Thanks for the compliment!

    Low 'N Ratty

Re: Quik 'N Ratty Thanks! Been seeing this since the paint treatment...slime green...red...Rat Fink! So, got a little ratty on the chain guard... First: I pencilled on my design Then, I used a sharpie paint marker to darken my lines And then...the paint

    Low 'N Ratty

I picked up this bike last weekend... It has a bunch of mismatched parts on it, but I saw potential. Here's where I am so far... I want to get the front of the banana seat right down on the frame and back a little further. I also need to either brace or ditch the rear fender. The paint was a...

    59 Schwinn build

Great patina! I love how these old bikes look when the paint is left alone, or just cleaned up. Mother nature does wonderful things sometimes (her "welds" are a pain though). Looks good with the clay tires!

"A Serious Ride": Getting Serious Again...

Well, so far, this summer has sucked. My wife is having some ongoing medical issues and then she lost her job because of the amount of work she missed. Unemployment has been delayed for some reason as well...so, needless to say, things are pretty tight in the IronDio household. Enough of the...

    American Beauty

Thanks! Yeah, that quality is probably why they are as popular as they are...when I hear Chicago, I think Schwinn...and Old Style. Guess I know what to haul in the baskets!

    American Beauty

Thanks! I get it at CARQUEST. I didn't realize it was hard to find. We've always had it in stock, so I just take it for granted I guess. It works without the wax, but it works SO much better with the lubrication, plus it leaves a little coat of wax when you're done.

Re: Schwinn American Here it is with the rack back on it. I just love this bike! The only change I might make to it is whitewall tires.

    American Beauty

Went into a local antiques shop looking for an old Chevy trunk emblem, and stumbled across this beauty! 1961 according to the serial number. Spent a few hours cleaning it up with my special weapons Meguier's Quick Detail Spray and 0000 Steel Wool. Then put about 3 coats of Turtle Wax Ice to...

    "Opportunity Knocks"...(minor updates)

Made a few minor changes over the last year. Ditched the cylinder bag for a wwII ammo pouch then had to use a different mount for the headlight to clear the taller storage unit. Put a Chicago Schwinn head badge on it as well. The bolt to lock the crankset failed on me :( THAT was a fun...

    Canuckles

Thanks! I personally like to keep my headlights low and tight. I like to get them inline with the top tube if possible, and keep them as close to the steer tube as possible...just my personal preference. Got the bushing ground to level the light more... Had to take out the crossbar, so I added...

    Canuckles

Got a little bit more done to this bike last night. Now that it's back together, I need to mark my bushing on the headlight and grind it to get the light leveled. I like the look so far

    Canuckles

So, I picked up this CCM a couple of months back. Now that school's wrapping up for the semester, I can give it a little attention. It's a pretty sweet bike! I had an idea to use an old sissy bar as truss rods. I didn't like the legs being straight, so I used my tubing roller and gave them a...

    Bare Minimum. FINISHED

Re: Bare Minimum. That is really cool! I have a crank off an old Columbia that was run over, so one side is bent...that would be a great way to recycle it! Great build thread! I'm watching this one closely from here out!

    Next Project: First Mockup

Thanks! I literally cut this section off the Packard and mocked it up to see what it looks like. I'm going to cut that bb off and fill in that section with tubing. I'm still not sure what setup I'm going to go with as far as a crank, but it will be higher and further back from it's current...
