When we lived on Oa'hu, there was a Hawai'ian pop song "I'll Build You a Rainbow" by the group "Kapena". The boy in the song(Jaime) was called Big J by his dying mom, not 'cause he was a big guy, but because he had a big heart. My 10 year old daughter started calling me BigJ as a joke. It sort...
Now, here's my question. Since this is a local pickup only, how many people in Butler, BFE, Missouri would want this bike for $9.95, much less $9,995? :?
Nothing wrong with doing most of the work and sending the bike off for the cables. I've done it. Best thing to do is get some old cables, and a good quality bike cable cutter and practice.
Right here in my town, I'd say 70% high-end Road bikes/34% high-end MTB's. The other 1% are mine :D
Seriously, I very rarely see people riding casual/hybrid/rat rod etc. here in town. Most people that ride casually have beach cruisers and take them to the beach.
I bought my Montague new in 1993. It has been through 2 complete rebuilds. I have ridden it all over the US and in quite a few countries, including the infamous Ride to the Buddha Temple, Lantau Island, Hong Kong in 1995. It is semi-retired now.
Interestingly enough, this was actually used at college. It has a Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo sticker on it. The guy that owns the LBS I frequent gave it to me. Someone gave it to him(they were going to throw it away). He figured I'd put it to good use.
Yes. It originally had the Schwinn 26" wheels. It is a little different now. I took the Brooks vinyl Racing saddle off and put a Selle Royal Drifter on. I also changed the rear cog to a 22, and put a NOS old S/A thumbshifter on. It is a little too small for me. My wife and daughter ride it.
Wheel and tire size(i.e. overall diameter) play a lot into it. I'm running a 46:22 with a S/A 3 speed. Wheels are 700c and tires are 32. To me this is a perfect combo. I think it is way too easy to overgear.
Kenda makes thier Kwest in a 1.5" x 26" version. They have two types. The regular "low" pressure and a "100 psi" style. I put the 100 psi on a bike I built for my brother. It had a hi-rise stem and moustache bars on a D'Back Topanga frame. He likes the tires, and he's a serious roadie. BTW, he...
