    New Sturmey-Archer singlespeed coaster....

Hmm, an internet search 8 months later reveals almost as few results ... anyone know if this thing is going to see the light of day? I love the other anodized shells SA has out there.

Coaster brake hub is behaving like a fixed gear

I think Deorman nailed it. It's definitely not the cones being too tight, but I've had a feeling it's something with the clutch. I'll look into it a bit more. Quick question about the clutch spring - I've read in a few sources that the clutch spring can be removed from the clutch for better...

For sure, I really think the second-hand market has disillusioned me to how much things actually cost to make.

    Lets see your winter bike.

Thanks for all of the info. It might be a while until I try making my own, but I'm glad to have the information for when I do try it. I especially like the idea of re-using old studded tires ... where do you get them from? I would imagine alot of people simply throw out their old studded...

    Lets see your winter bike.

Oh, one other thing - even though the price of the Schwalbe Marathon's really hurts (even with these lower-priced tires), all I can say is "WOW". I've always been of the mindset that the premium stuff available for bikes really isn't that much better than the average stuff - for the most part...

    Lets see your winter bike.

I got a chance to break in my studded tires yesterday, so my winter bike is more or less complete now. I'm sure I'll change out a few things here and there, but here it goes: * 2013 Schwinn Heavy Duti frame + chainguard (courtesy of Ind_Chuckz). * Old Schwinn one piece crankset. *...

Coaster brake hub is behaving like a fixed gear

I need help diagnosing a problem with a Shimano E-110 coaster brake hub; I've never seen anything like this before and I'm hoping someone else has encountered it. I have a factory built wheel that I bought before I could lace wheels myself; it's one of those Shimano E-110's laced to a...

Thoughts on disk-type coaster brake hubs

Thanks for giving me reason to worry, guys :D! I never really noticed that, the 3-piece construction of modern CB hub shells. I'm a pretty small guy, so I don't think I have to risk breaking anything, but still. And thanks for the tip on Velosteel ... I'd been planning on ordering one for the...

    New Rats or Old Rats?

:D This is proof that my statement that I build bikes "80% functionality/20% style" is a lie - I had the choice of getting a Heavy Duti, Worksman, or Summit from Chuck and I based my decision to go with the Heavy Duti on the fact that the 2013 model was the most stylish. I am now kicking myself...

Ouch; maybe I've just been spoiled by all the great frames I can get cheap used, but that seems a bit high (considering it doesn't even include a fork). I do understand that part of that price is the cost to make it in America, though, so I'm alright with that.

Thoughts on disk-type coaster brake hubs

I recently picked up an old Nankai coaster brake hub off of Hxcforever (thanks again man!). I mainly bought it because of reading about it in "Glenn's New Bicycle Manual"; thanks to that book I understand that the Nankai hub, along with Hawthorne, New Departure, and others used brake disks...

    Lets see your winter bike.

:D Months before joining the forum to start inquiring about how to build my very own winter cruiser I was lurking around here and came across your thread. You have no idea how much time I spent trying to find a Trek Classic after that :D.

    Lets see your winter bike.

Just a few observations of commuting so far this winter: 1. As I've mentioned before, I'm living in a new city as I pursue a degree in Physical Therapy. This is my first winter here, and man, I thought my previous city salted the roads a lot! My mind is just being blown by the amounts of...

    Lets see your winter bike.

A few questions for those who build their own studded tires: 1. How much do they end up costing you in total (tires, studs, etc.)? 2. Do you need to "break in" the studs on dry pavement before using them on ice (the way you would a commercial studded tire)? 3. What tread pattern do your...

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if they sell frames? I wouldn't mind buying an ING off of them.

    New Rats or Old Rats?

I got my start with older cruisers, and for the longest time would never give anything modern a shot. In the long run, though, my stance has been loosening up quite a bit. Because I build bikes 80% functionality/20% style (I'm probably being a bit generous/benevolent with that ratio :P), I'm...

    Lets see your winter bike.

We got our first real snow last night, and I must say I take back all the dread I've had for winter ... it was just a total blast. My Heavy-Duti is still nowhere near as complete as I want it to be, but it was rideable. Combine my Heavy-Duti not being complete with the experience I had of...

That's a good point about the longer wheelbase. I was mentioning to Bicycle808 a while back that the Heavy-Duti has a longer wheelbase than anything I'm used to (old lightweights and middleweights, basically). It's nothing as drastic as the wheelbase on your bike, but still, I think it'll help.

A few novice questions about BMX bars

That would be fantastic. I'll send you a PM tomorrow (BIG exam first thing in the morning). I must say, those BMX bars in a traditional quill stem look really cool. Since I've started thinking about going with a BMX quill stem, though, I think I've got my mind set on going that route. Out of...
