Hawg Wylde, my 1962 Schwinn Typhoon 20" Pig Bike Build Off #17 Class 1 Entry.

I am glad the bring up good memories for you and hopefully others as well! That was the whole idea behind this bike! They are Hurst levers, and they are within 1/4" of the length of the Schwinn Stik-Shift levers. I was going to buy the regular Competition Plus levers new, but I remembered the...

Both shift levers arrived today so I started on the shifter mechanisms. One is indexed for a 3 speed while the other is tension controlled like a normal 5 speed shifter. Both will use some kind of adjusters and possibly a type of overload tube.

A minor change occurred, apparently when I bought my seat and got the extra material to do the sissybar I didn't plan on it being as tall as it is. The material is about a foot too short to go from top to bottom so I am working on a solution that does not involve cutting the sissybar down. Damme.

Ok I know the suspense has probably killed at least 3 members so this morning I will post a photo of the top of the sissybar. It looks like a cathedral bend. I think I am liking it. Photo below.

After several adjusmenrs (bending, etc) I now have a functional kickstand that just clears the 5-1/2" crank. It sits more like a normal Stingray kickstand, close to the frame and tucked in nicely. I also bent the sissybar today. It looks a little different than I had planned, but I am embracing...

I won and paid for the Indy shift lever, so I need to buy one more to match it. I have one lined up, I just have not pulled the trigger yet.

Here are the photos I promised earlier this morning. I knew how much it would excite everyone, so I thought I would show my homemade crank cup installer It is part of a race and seal driver kit, but I need one more small end to make it work properly. Now a couple shots from noon or so today...

Later today I will be posting the first of the final stages photos, and a shot of my homemade crank bearing race installer tool. That one is kinda boring, but one day you may be thankful I made you endure it. The bike is starting to take shape, but I still need to build the shifters and bend...

Sure, the post was mainly for info in case another person or yourself is looking for an alternative braking method that is period correct. I didn't see the style I offered mentioned by anyone. Yours was a great Idea, and used on some musclebikes and BMX bikes as well. Thanks, Rob

An add on brakeset that mounts on the seat stay bars would be a way to do brakes without modifying anything. They are usually available either here, The Cabe or eBay and not that expensive. They are also period correct for the frame. Schwinn, Resilion and others made them. I will pull up photos...

Thanks to everyone for their compliments, encouragement and suggestions! Any creation is an expression of ones self. How it comes together is sometimes the hardest part. Not everything can work in the way the mind sees it. I have been fortunate in that most of what I am seeing is becoming a...

If I scratch the paint again I will spray some paint in a lid and touch it up with an old T-shirt rag The first paint job was nicer than this and I should've touched that up.

Today I got a few packages of parts from different places at once. One was a 1"-24tpi die to cut my threads down the fork further. I originally bought a spacer to get out of doing this but I bought a really cool headset and tovuse it to its fullest advantage I needed to thread it all the way...

Perhaps, but it would be filled with errors and do-overs. Maybe a How Not To Do post would be more correct? Seriously, If there is anything I can help with on any part of this adventure I would be happy to share my adventures. Rob

Well, some progress today at least! A few small things I needed done. I changed the bumper on the fork for a red polyurethane bumper I bought months ago. I put the red lever boots and lever covers on my chrome steel Raleigh levers. I made a Schwinn kickstand tool from a Craftsman wood clamp...
