Passed on it. Forks weren't the only things bent. Frame also .Pedals barely turned and had a nasty grinding feel. More work than I can justify with my existing backlog of projects.

Anyone have an opinion on this CL bike? It's listed for $50. description is "Vintage Murray early 60s" Chainguard says "Venture." I have no doubt its a Murray from the shape of the dropouts.

Why is that one spot on the fender so much rustier than the rest of the bike? I bought a Hawthorne a few months back with the same thing: all the rust localized to a spot on the fender.

I didn’t have a stingray as a kid so they don’t evoke the nostalgia for me that others have. I grew up in the country with no kids around. All the country kids rode “knock offs.”

Sorry to go off topic but thanks for the info on the BMA6 sticker, Rustygold. I just picked up a Hawthorne and was trying to get an idea on the age. Has a BMA6 sticker so now I know the decade.

I never found anything on my Monterey frame that helped date it. But the stem was stamped “90” and that along with the Miami Vice styling leads me to believe mine was built in 1990. The number on the head tube had far fewer digits than yours. And now it’s buried in layers of spray paint.

I could see Langdon St Ives cruising around on these.

My son outgrew his 16 inch bike so I've been looking for something to replace it. Had to make a business trip 250 miles from home and checked CL and found this flashy 18 inch Dyno Fireball. Chinese made, I think, but good for a 7 year old. And picked it up the day before his birthday party...

Bummed I was too distracted with work and missed out on voting. Then looked at the bikes and realized I would have ended up voting for all the entries, so probably ok I missed out. Awesome work and a fantastic array of bikes.
