    24 Inches Of Junk

I threw this together today just for giggles. It is a conglomeration of three 24" scrap pile garbage rods...a 24" Huffy girls cruiser (wheels/stem,fork,grips,chain), a 24" Huffy MTB (tires, tubes), and a 24" Roadmaster MTB (frame, seat and post, BB assembly). It rides nice, but it's too small for...

    Schwinn Continental II

Pardon my ignorance, but let me get this straight... You're buying 36 hole coaster brake hubs and lacing them into old 26" 10-speed/MTB wheels using the existing spokes?

I like the way you think, and how you make what many consider junk way cool. I have a pile of dept. store bikes like that I'd like to convert, but I'm having a helluva time finding coaster brake rear wheels.

Very cool. I'd ride that any time.

    Seabee Tribute (Future) Project

My grandfather was a SeaBee in the Aleutians (Adak) during WW2, and I had a great uncle who was a SeaBee in the south Pacific (Guam) during the war as well.

    Brother-In-Law's 1992(?) Specialized Rockhopper Sport

Nothing crazy. Tires, tubes, seat, pedals, grips, cables, clean/lube. The usual stuff for an old, worn out bike. Bro-in law is an old fart like me, and says he's had this rig since his college days...so I'm thinking he won't want to repaint it. I'm recommending the Kenda City Slick Mountain...

1989 Specialized Stump Jumper Revival Begins!

The Stumpy's coming along. Got her mocked up pretty much where I want her. Waiting for grips and brake/shifter cable kits. She's ridable now, at least! I think she'll be quite nice when done.

    Brother-In-Law's 1992(?) Specialized Rockhopper Sport

He has commissioned me to get it back on the road. Apparently, he has a lot of sentimental value for it. It's kinda rough, but I figure I can get it riding like new and looking pretty nice for $200 in new parts.

Because I have neither experience nor confidence in my abilities, I took the wheels to my LBS, Bicycle Garage Indy South, to get them trued. Assembled and installed the forks, which seem to function now as originally intended. Scrounged a set of handle bars from my stash and mocked them up...

Dry run assembly: I've sent an email to the manufacturer to make sure this is correct. The instructions are a little vague, and I didn't have much remaining of the originals to go by.

1989 Specialized Stump Jumper Revival Begins!

What a PITA! Turns out hot water and the liberal use of rags and a shotgun cleaning rod would get this red gelatinous goo out of the fork. For those who may not know, this early style Manitou fork contains no metal springs, but rather several sponge type pucks, bolts, and some washers...

Yes, and thanks. It's probably more cheapness on my part rather than dedication, but I appreciate your kind words! ;)

gnarly! Roller bearings? I'm gonna have to stick a pinky in the air when I'm drinking my tea now! Thanks, KCI!

1989 Specialized Stump Jumper Revival Begins!

Started tearing fork tubes apart. Inside of tubes is funky. Right side came apart no problem. Pulled the allen bolt and washer out, and the only thing remaining was what looked like a burned up piece of bear scat fused to the bottom of the tube...which would not come out. The left tube is...

1989 Specialized Stump Jumper Revival Begins!

I have dumb question. This has an old school threaded stem, but it has this top cap thingy which is retained with a very small allen headed bolt. Does this top cap screw off in the traditional way in order to remove the fork? I removed the allen bolt and tried to unthread it with a wrench, but...

This is how she looked when I got her. Put her on the new stand and get to rippin' into it. First thing is to remove seized fork in preparation for the rebuild kit ordered from Suspension Fork Parts. https://www.suspensionforkparts.net/eshop/answer-manitou/manitou-1.html That done, I...
