    Making own cranks

This pic was from Firebikes in Canada I believe, not 100% sure about that. What I do remember was I contacted them for a set and they custom made them 1 at a time and it was out of my range. They would be heavy, but man are they cool. I saved the pic because I thought it looked like something...

Rat Rod Bikes Build Off #14?

I have to admit one class would be easier then anything else. Then you could also get creative with voting, vote multiple times. Examples like...peoples choice, most creative, best classic, whatever. No rules other then the regular stuff, 1 class, a couple voting options.

Thanks Duchess, well put. I agree 100%.

I'm planning to braze some v brake mounts on. Whatever class that puts me in, so be it. I just go with the flow Daddy-O.

You don't need "welding equipment" to add cable guides or bunny ears. A propane torch and Harris 56 will do it. That's a big difference from some one cutting tubes and rearranging geometry.

Actually a braze is not a weld by definition. They are totally different. I agree with Carl, braze on some canti mounts is ok for factory frame class, fillet braze or weld a frame and change geometry, that would be the mod frame class.

Rat Rod Bikes Build Off #14?

Man, didn't mean to make things complicated. Just looking for clarification, I'll happily go by whatever rules are laid out. I'm not one to piss and moan about trivial things. Most important is friendly and fun, I'm the not the Dude that's going to rain on anybody's parade. Keep it stock frame...

Rat Rod Bikes Build Off #14?

Rat Rod, What's a frame mod? Just wondering where the line in the sand is drawn. I don't personally consider these frame mods while technically they might be... Shaving brackets off Adding braze ons Drilling for internal cables Cold setting frames Spreading seat/chain stays or dimpling Are any...

    62 Schwinn Straight Bar

One of my favorite post War Schwinn frames.

"Entries with not much more than spit and polish clog the ballots and..." Now that's a good idea for the Build Off Challenge Section. A Spit and Polish Challenge. I have a 62 double straight bar that wants some love, I need to get off my butt, hack up a cheesy lunger and polish it.

If your worried about not enough people participating for #14, heck, I'll do it. I'm in. I like a subtle or kinda conservative look so nothing real wild from me. I guess that is what it is all about, everyone is different. Yeah I'm in.

Ha ha, that's great! Santa reminds me of the old Zig Zag man. Nice work on all of them.

Bolt-on kit for V-brakes on an old cruiser frame?

I think that is good advice from Carl. I have never used the little mapp/oxy set ups, looks great for the bike hobby. The mapp alone flame definitely is hot enough to braze, the problem is they don't put out enough heat. If that makes any sense. Although the flames temperature is hot enough, the...

    FAIRLY ORDINARY E-BIKE

I really like it. Simple minimalist look to it. How do you like the one lever operating both brakes? Any problem, is it hard to ajust correctly?

Bolt-on kit for V-brakes on an old cruiser frame?

I have brazed on a frame with mapp gas, it takes a while to heat up. You can buy braze on brake posts, you need to use your imagination and make a jig to hold them. Bicycle guru Sheldon Brown made a locating jig that bolted to the drop outs, looks pretty nice.

    Dilemma

I would file/grind just around the area necessary to install, not the entire length of thread. Go to BMX-Guru and search flat axle. Tried to post a link but it didn't work. Sounds like you have it covered anyway. Good luck, and post that Shelby! I have a prewar Shelby Rex frame for a future...
