Well, I got my rack shortened up and assembled, that was the easy part, now I have to figure out how to make it fit. At the rate I'm going this may just be a bike with a cool custom rack! Problem is, nothing fits right without modifying somehow. I've got parts coming tomorrow that I KNOW...

So I finally got some parts that work together and started working on the rack. Originally this wasn't going to be a rack, I just bought it for parts, but things change the more you look at them. First I needed to modify the brackets to work the way I wanted. I wanted four bars, so I started...

Haven't done much at all lately. Keep getting cool ideas that just don't pan out. Got some parts on the way that should get the ball rolling again. When I do get ideas that work, the parts usually end up being oddball sizes that give me grief.

Well, in the smallest of small updates, I made another attitude adjustment, that may help me get to the next step that I will waste my time on. Probably looks the same (which is ok), but eagle-eyed viewers will spot it: I have an idea that i *think* might be cool (they all seem cool in my...

Seems like I get super busy right after the build-off starts every year. Got the rear wheel on though. These tires are a bit of a struggle to get on the rims. Lookin' a little bit more like a proper motor bike now though: The second picture reminded me of the car from the movie "The Car"...

The stem shouldn't be a problem to buy, the upper bearing race might be tougher to find by itself. Everything I have that's 1" is threaded, including the top bearing race. Just need to look a little harder. Front wheel is done, fits no problem. I threw it on the rear too, looks like it will...

I'm already getting soured on this build and I haven't hardly even started yet. I knew when I bought the fork that I would need a 1" threadless stem and headset pieces, what I didn't know was how impossible those pieces would be to find! I just assumed I would have something lying around, at...

Phase 1: Remove chain guard Phase 2: ????? Phase 3 is profit! (Bonus points for you if you know what that's a reference to...) (Yes, I know I said I wasn't going to work on the motorcycle in another thread, but I thought I would at least try to get it to stop leaking!)

Rat Rod Bikes Build Off #14?

Distractions... Was all ready to dive into the build off today, when a motorcycle I've been looking for for a while became available on Craigslist, so I had to go get it. Now all I want to do is tinker with it. I pushed it in a corner and covered it up, so maybe I'll forget about it for a...

This is all you get for now: This is going to be a mild build for me, more of an "attitude adjustment". Starting with a new bike again, which I kinda really don't like. As it sits it doesn't do much for me, but I think it has potential. It will be interesting to see how some of the parts...

    Build off 14

Anyone find anything cool in Ann Arbor or at Memory Lane?

Hit both this weekend, lots to see, feel like I scored enough to make the trip worthwhile. Found these handlebars at ML, they may become part of my build-off bike, depending on how they fit: Also found this stem at ML. It's a little scary looking from a riding standpoint, but I think it...

Rat Rod Bikes Build Off #14?

Ordered my FRONT ONLY shirt, so everyone can stop losing their minds. My comment about the price was more a reflection on me than Steve. I understand certain circumstances drive up the price, but I'm kind of a basic guy that sees the end product and the hole in my wallet and shakes my head. A...

Rat Rod Bikes Build Off #14?

I have 3 build off shirts already. Try to get one for every build off I actively participate in, but I honestly don't remember them being that expensive? Usually for something like this I don't think too hard at $20 plus shipping, but when I saw $33 I had to reconsider. Figured with a template...

Cool shirt, ain't no way I'm paying $33 to have one sent to me though. You need to hook up with a silkscreener that can make you shirts for $5-$6 and sell them for $15 instead of these online services that make $20 profit per shirt.

Neighbor dropped off an interesting bike.

Ran into my neighbor in the supermarket a few weeks ago and he said he had a bike taking up space in his barn. Told him to drop it off at my place sometime, fast forward and I come home from work and this is in front of my garage: It's obviously not that old, probably about 10 years old or so...

This kind of gives a better idea of how big these rims are. That's a 26x3 tire.
