    Urban Klunker- Bruiser?

I may even throw some knobby tires on it and see what it does on some local trails.

    Urban Klunker- Bruiser?

Got this one pretty much finished up. Wheelset came in today. They are a lot darker than I thought, but that's ok. It doesn't have to match. Crappy indoor pic because it's too dark outside. Wheelset is from eBay, Weinmann wheels, Shimano coaster brake. They are light. I'm happy with them...

    chrome stripping

Upon thinking about it more, the piece I tested the discs on was a cast pot metal mopar mirror, so the strip disc might be just fine on actual steel. I figured it was worth a shot, most it could do is not work right?

    chrome stripping

Since I recommended the roloc discs without having tried them, albeit having lots of experience with them, I've never tried it on chrome. However I figured I should. Both of the discs I recommended stripped the chrome right off, through the nickel and copper right to bare steel. I would use the...

    chrome stripping

I was originally talking about these: http://www.tcpglobal.com/MMM-7480.html?gclid=CPG2zMvFx8kCFZY0aQodrTQIig#.VmRTZV88KnM But after thinking on it, these may also work. Not sure which would work better but neither should destroy the steel...

These are cool. A good classic build(s) like this is good for the soul. Welcome and enjoy the hobby! Jon

    Schwinn and Tires

I grew up on the same principle that my dad taught me, same principle he grew up on in the '60s. If you ain't riding a Schwinn, then you were riding junk. To be fair, he was born in Chicago. I've lived by that most of my life, experimented with other bikes, but the Schwinns are what I knew...

    Flux wire welding

Another recommendation for at least a Miller or Hobart. Have a Hobart 110 and 220 in use at our body shop at work. Both are very nice. I can lay down some badass welds for being a young inexperienced welder. Have a couple 110 Lincoln and Millers at home that don't get used very much. Jon

    chrome stripping

In my experience it will remove some of the chrome. Depends on the quality and condition of the chrome. I've only ever blasted really badly rusted chrome, but sometimes still have some left. You could also try a 3M scotch brite pad on a roloc disk on an angle grinder. Should cut right through...

This looks like a mighty cool ride

Those are cool. I wish my current 29er had a sweet frame like that. Wonder how the components would hold up to some off-road abuse.

    Urban Klunker- Bruiser?

I'll have to ride it first before I make a decision about cutting them down. They are actually for another project, but that one has awhile before its done. Just sitting on it right now I like it. I'm not exactly small so it allows me to stretch out some. We'll see, would make me feel really...

    Urban Klunker- Bruiser?

Got the fork this afternoon. Got it fit up and cut down. Got some grips and a chain this morning. Just waiting on the wheelset. I'm really happy with it so far. The bars are REALLY wide, but I like them so far. Only thing left of the original bike is most of the headset. This one is gonna...

    Urban Klunker- Bruiser?

I've been thinking about building a throw in the back of a truck, trunk, back seat whatever it be and not worry about it bike. It must be lightweight and cool. I don't know that there is a particular category for this style of bike, so I've created my own. A Bruiser, defined as a throw around...

    (ORBO) BMX/MTB/BOMBER/KLUNKER BO .....VOTING FINISHED!......

Funny you say that, I was thinking of a zombie green paint scheme. My handlebars arrived today! Have almost all the parts to throw it together, January needs to hurry up and get here!!!! Once this officially starts I'm not sure I'll need till April, I could have it done in a couple weeks cause...

    Still have your first bike?

Who still has their first bike(s)? Let's see um! First is a 16" BMX style my dad pulled out of the dumpster at his work. I wanted it painted gold so that's what he did for me. Been with me ever since. I don't even remember riding this one, but remember trying to as I got older. No idea as to...
