I cut and welded the seat post and got the seat mounted. The seat post is a bit of an oddball in that the part for the seat clamp is larger diameter than the part that goes in the frame. The seat is a brooks professional which some critter had a cheeky little nibble on. I was going to butcher...

I mounted a set of soma Major Taylor bars, and a set of grips from the junk bin that just happened to be the right color. Then I installed the cranks, forks and bars. Surprisingly the bearings were all in great shape, so it still has all the original hartford bearings. It's finally a roller.

Any one know when amf started motorized bikes i got one looks like its from the 50s maybe but cant find anything

Amf started producing their Roadmaster moped around 1978, and Harley Davidson bought AMF in 1981. I don't know if this is the bike you're talking about though? Post some photos if you don't mind, I'd be interested to see what you've found.

I had this set of wheels with a coaster brake hub laying around so I'll swap them in so I can ditch the brake calipers and cables. I also cleaned up the crank and sprocket.

I bought this steel lugged stem for another bike but it wasn't the right size, it should look good on this bike.

I worked a bit more on the paint. I though I'd try another color to break things up a bit.

I started on the paint in the areas I modified. I want to get it done now so it has time to season.

I like the shape so far.

Thanks. It's something a bit different from what I normally build.

I finished the seat-stays and got them welded in. I'll probably tie them into the seat-tube for additional rigidity.

I need to extend the seat stays 4" so I found some scrap stays from another freesprit that are the correct size and turned two ends from 1/2" solid bar stock in the lathe. I'll probably grind the ends at an angle.

    Cut and Thread spokes?

Spoke threads are rolled not cut. The tool and dies are kind of expensive, but you might try keeping an eye on ebay for a deal on a used one. The Hozan one is probably the most common.

Nice job on the frame and fork.

    Revenant

Those small details are one of the reasons I love early bikes. Bikes were expensive high end goods, and manufacturers were all doing things their own way. You need a pair of these.

I took a few minutes after lunch and got the top tube welded in. It's the original top tube extended with part of the seat post tube. I wanted to retain the tapered end. So far all the tubing is OEM murray.

(Rigid Rodent) name change ... Tireless Trainer ... finished!!

It was a huffman built frame. The serial number could potentially be on the bottom bracket, dropout or seat post collar (looks to have been replaced with a schwinn collar)

We had a cold front come through and cool it down to a brisk 84f/29c with low humidity so I was able to get some work done this afternoon. I managed to get the seat post welded in.
