No, the lemon juice and salt do almost all the work, and a quick buff is all it takes.

Just added a Velo Orange rack to the bike. It was a bit fiddly to install. I used the 650 mounting hole even though I have a 700 tyre, and reduced the height of the mounting bosses that fit over the mudguard. I then had to use button head hex bolts to gain clearance for the tyre and a few other...

Just thought I would give a bit of an update. I changed the rear sprocket to a larger one to make pedaling a bit easier on my old knees, the bike still moves along briskly and the automatic hub works very nicely. I've added a set of Velo Orange Zeppelin mudguards, a small Spanninga tail light...

Thanks Luke. My Lion Bell arrived from England, very fast, took about a week. They will customize the bell with up to 30 characters for a small surcharge. I had them do mine with WEARWELL CYCLE CO. ENGLAND. The bell is brass with a nice tone and the mount is stainless.

Added a Carradice Barley bag. I am currently designing a quick release for it as well as a support. I also had a custom made leather strap made for the bag so that when I remove it I can carry it easily. Here's the strap attached. Love the touch of adding the seamstress' name to each bag.

Well, I finally got the rear wheel centered in the frame between the seat stays and the chain stays. It was quite a task. I first moved the entire rear triangle toward the drive side. Then I took a reference measurement to the dropout on this side. I then checked on the non-drive side and found...

Show us your Park Tools in use!

How many Park Tools do you see? Had to take my bicycle apart to cold set the frame. Used a few Park Tools in the process. What can you see in this photo.

Aligning dropouts with FFG-2 You can see a few other Park Tools in the background, a SS-1 Stay Straightener and a F A G-2 Frame Aligning Gauge.

Took my bike for a nice ride today. Rides nicely despite my rear wheel not being centered.

The hub is great but I will probably tweak the spring to make it shift a bit later. Right now it shifts when I would rather spin a bit more.

Took it for a shakedown run, everything works nicely. Will need to work a bit more on centering the rear wheel between the stays and a bit of fine tuning. Ordered a Carradice Barley saddle bag for it so I can carry a few bits with me, sandwiches, rain cape, spares, tools, camera. I must say...

Finally Rivendell got their Miesha cork grips in stock. Got the chain installed but had a bad experience with a well-respected local bike shop. Sent the bike to have the dropouts aligned but they assumed my SRAM Automatix was a kickback hub and proceeded to destroy its internals. They claimed it...

I decided on a Nitto Techomic stem because it is long and I wanted a European "sit up and beg" riding position. I may shorten it later. I was originally going to re-use the old Milremo stem that came on the bike, but it was too short. Here you can see how the reaction arm for the brake...

my LED light from a vintage automotive lamp

You could. I'll post a progress report soon. I made the battery pack and it is indeed brighter. I left it on for 4 hours and got tired of waiting for the light to dim. It gets warm but not excessively so. Batteries stay cool. I have purchased a suitable vintage tail light, an old Miller dynamo...

One thing I hadn't purchased was the bottom bracket. I couldn't decide on spindle length to give me the proper chain line. I decided to go out on a limb and use 110mm which is what the crank manufacturer recommends. Ordered a Gran Cru from Velo Orange along with sume caps for the crank arms. As...

Yes, your build was a bit of inspiration, especially when going with red for the colour. Most of the other things you have done I also was of similar mind already. I wish you hadn't cut those VO fenders though. I want a full set and I have an original set of English shorty Bluemels to swap...

I decided to use the kickstand that came on the bike when I bought it. It is the standard old Pletscher Esge model which I buffed up on my buffing machine, I used some clear silicone tubing between the clamp and frame. I also mounted the wheels. Now it is starting to look like a bicycle again.

Next came time to have the frame powdercoated. I had a lot of colours in mind. Originally I wanted a light gray blue or a light olive green or even a tan... these seem to be popular colours for city bikes these days. Then I thought I should perhps go traditional blck or dark green, but decided...
