Pondo, I love the light blue on yours. Mine won't take long...just cosmetic, mostly, with new high bars and a bit of a chopper look. Here is a pick of the Cranbrook I did earlier this year, bc I was too excited to wait for the build off lol.
Hey folks. Im considering this one frame for the step thru build off. It is an older Murray, from maybe 15 years ago, and is equipped with normal, non folding bead tires. 26x2.125. Found some knobbies I like, with a folding bead. Will folding tires work on older standard original, factory rims...
Thats just a brilliant idea. Thanks so much. I was thinking about renting a large tap and die set with the big handle at a local parts store, but I like your innovative, free approach, and will do that.
Thanks for the tip and link. I'm actually trying to mount a dual springer fork I might get off ebay. The listing says the tube is longer than most bikes steering tubes so they can be custom fitted. It's already threaded, but I still may need to cut some threads lower.
Thanks for the link!
Thanks for posting all the pics. That blue klunker with the tiny headlight looks like it would be Steve McQueens bike. And yes, he was man enough to ride a step through down the red carpet 🤣
Nice touches. So does the air conditioning come on at a certain temp?
Well when a ride gets hairy, you'll be prepared. I prefer a straight razor when riding. I don't have to plug it in.
Thats a mean looking fink! This is such an awesome rat build.
I love the chain guard decal. Great work overall.
Great bikes...every one deserving the OJ award. Next OJ buildoff...I'm in!
TRM, awesome build. Where can I find techniques for doing Rat-tina finish methods? Like the mustard technique (which I've never heard of), and the method of using the wood stain and wipe? What does the wood stain do? Thanks.
Pondo, where do you get all these pics? I need to find a good database of step through and standard pics...and the modified ones. For ideas. This white one is what angels ride in heaven.
To clarify, you preserved the original finish and patina and clearcoated it? What kind of prep can you do to preserve and not modify an original finish, using just clearcoat? Just the light steel wool rubbing, fine sandpaper, then a polish?
Welcome. That Hawthorne tooks like it could be a really special bike. I like the idea of just a clean up and preservation on the really rusty ones. I think you should even try your best to use those rims. But I'm weird and poor, so I get into rusty specials when they can be done well.
