thanks guys, it was a pretty quick fix as I plan on making a nice one at some point and time, used the outer nut on a liquid tight electrical conduit fitting, an old lever arm I found around the shop, a bit of tube to mount the twist shifter to and an old clamp from a bicycle generator I found...

Re: 5th and final... I think ya, you're not going to find a battery like that at your hardware store, that's for sure. the real solution sounds like a new wiring job, you can always go to a small 12v battery and change bulbs...........
