UGH!

Pretty much as a repeat of last year i'm deciding to do a bike at the last second. I am leaving for crested butte for fat tire bike week next Thursday (June 21st). The theme for our group (about 20 of us) is Mad Max. The goal is to get A bike looking sort of like a mad maxish looking ride, then after the weekend, I may work on it some more and add some things before the build-off closes.

We begin with a $20 china schwinn...

When I think of a Mad Max bike, I think of t he Madd Hammer from RRBBO 3. Maybe it'll give you some inspiration, maybe not.. Whatever you come up with will be cool I guarantee it.. It is, after all, a Mad Max theme!!

Oh man that's a cool idea. When I was a kid I would use all of the optional left over pieces from my model cars and airplanes and glue them all over my older broken model cars in the Mad Max style. I can't wait to see what you do.

ha. think FAR simpler. I really have no time to build this. I actually have two other bikes I need to finish before next thursday as well. One thing that's certain is it will be black.

3-i'm pretty sure it's the most painfull one i ever got :lol:

P.S.Did you get some Crested Butte posters at the swap in Boulder?

Yup. I'll see if I recognize the guy and girl that were working the table during the chainless race.

The fork has been painted and need to be re-assembled. The "tank" has been fashioned. And the frame has had it's first layer of paint put on (it will need more paint after the tank is added). I should be able to put up some pics tonight.

Funny enough I picked up the scroll saw I used to cut these with at a bike/car swap =)


Fork legs pre-paint

painted

found a rear wheel to use (I want at least 8 speed for this thing).

I'm going to go ahead and use the original crank. But since the chrome is cheap and flaking it will get painted at well.

The brakes were too shiny. I'm still not sure if I'll be running a front brake.

The frame with a light paint job and the tank mounted. Yes that's JB weld, part of the reason I wanted a cheap/non-vintage bike for this build.

and after a TON of sanding.

It's not perfect, it's MAD

I'll probably start building it back up tonight.

PS, I finished painting the frame last night I just forgot to put the card back in the cam when taking pics.

I also stripped and painted the chainguard
