Day 28

We got a break in the rain, so it's out to the back porch in the BACK40 for a video update!

I feel like the chain guard is way too big for that bike. When I look at the rest of the bike, from the tank to the tires, the word that comes to mind is "slender." There ain't nothing "slender" about that chain guard! 🤣 Plus, the chain guard looks too curvy for this pretty angular bike. That chain guard's cool, but I don't think this is the right bike for it.

Personally, if I were to install a chain guard on it, it'd be a smaller, thinner one. Either something period correct or something more angular to match the lines of the frame.

Honestly. It makes me think you're carrying an old surfboard on a bicycle. Not quite as big as a surfboard, but it does stand out quite a bit. Takes away from the bike, like Matti said... a billboard of sorts.

I love a good chainguard mockup, but I think that one is just too bulky. Even if it was lopped off at the seatstays, it's still a lot of real estate that it consumes.

I like the billboard advertisement idea as well, though I can see the argument for slender too.

My first thought was “I was just in New Orleans and you wanna talk about humidity?!?” But then I thought, “give that chainguard the same treatment as the tank…”

So then reading the comments and looking back, what about a haircut-little of the top, little off the bottom, advert paint under ratina? Combine the ideas while slimming it down?

Also, love the seat! 😎

What about a farm-fix style chainguard?
Pie tin comes to mind, but even coffee or cookie tins? You could even take a more modern skinny guard and wrap it with old tins. Maybe even an old roached metal sign that is mostly gone (so affordable) and fabricate from that with some of the graphic still showing, while not deliberately showcasing the graphic. 🤷‍♂️

Oddjobs new chainguard:
;)

Obviously I am kidding, hope you don't mind ;)
Love your bike and beer bottles so far. Can't get over the tankjob. You could make props for movie sets, museums or theatres!

You know the old joke, "If I want your opinion, I'll ask for it." Well, I did, and boy did I get it! :21:

I do agree the chain guard is quite large and noticeable on Quasi. I kind of like Matti's idea of some sort of a 'billboard' in the effect of promoting the 'BACK40 Kustom Bikes' or 'BACK40 Bike Shed'. And I have a couple ideas percolating around that.

Also thinking of some ideas along the beer crate embellishment, but don't want to over-do it either. We shall see.

Just don't put a big ol' bottle cap in the middle of the frame, that's been done before.

Loving this Back40 Brew delivery ride. I like the length of the chain guard, though I think it could benefit from shaping the back a bit. I like the billboard idea for the chain guard also. Nice restoration on those bottles. I collect some old glass and appreciate the work you put in on those. ✌🏻

Day 32

Well, it's June 1 and Quasi-Motobike is still a work in progress. Sorry to disappoint any who may have had side bets on OJ finishing by June 1st~!

I have some work planned for today on spiffing up the beer crate and am delving into the Youtube annals on another process this morning. It's the benefit you get from being up before dawn every day because your school bus driving self still thinks you have to leave the house by 6 a.m.; even though it's been 2 1/2 yrs since you reported for driving duties.

RaT oN~! It's month #2 in the RRB BO 19 world!

This is a Janet issue. She wakes about 4am everyday.

Great job on the 'coasters'! I just looked at the pics before watching the videos and wondered where you had found them. Of course, you made them, I should have guessed. The bike is looking great! Now I'm wondering what more ideas you may have swirling around in your head. :113:

Most excellent work on the carrier. It's blending right in with the build nicely.
