Any ideas how/what/why this gearing works?

Looks like a Derailleur on there :?:

Sweet bike, Coincidence? Hotwheels toy cars came out in 1968.. :)

i think your lookin at the disc brake caliper :mrgreen:

Nope...

Caliper is at about the 2 o'clock position far side...Derailleur is at the 7 o'clock position this side. Also check shifter on down tube.

Hit 'huge view' to see...

It's a 3 speed chain tosser? Kinda diffrent errrr lame?
 
Its a cool bike, but not $900 cool.
The CHIEF is nice, so is the 2nd to last vintage bike
 
That 68 is danged nice alrighty.

I like the fact that there's no shifter cable bowing out in front of the bike like with the Nexus hubs....nice shifter location too.

It would be interesting to see how well that custom derailer works.

Now all I need to do is sell all of my bikes and I could afford one...ha ha.
 
Wow, those I actually like! Some of the new modern cruisers just dont look right but these have an interesting frame design and actually works on some of them. Cool looking bikes.
 
WOW that is a derailer. maybe no one wanted to put a disc set-up on an internal er sumthin :?:

ive got one of dose silly freewheel cogs got a 16 and a 19 tooth on the same freewheel assembly, you can set it up the same way with a derailer, but yeah that seems odd.
 
A buddy of mine is bought one of the Hot Wheels bikes. He says he's going to ride it?!?!? he said when he gets tired of it, he's going to sell it to me. He's the kind of guy that gets tired of something very shortly after he gets it...kind of an impulse buyer. I hope he gives me a good deal!!

I also noticed that the brown quick bricks are listed in the "components "section. Does this mean its gonna get easier to get the brown tires???
 
jim felt came into my shop when i was not there talking to my boss and he showed him the higgins then asked him if he had looked at these bikes and coppied them for the hotwheels bike. he said he did not have a quick reply.
 
that hot wheels looks fast!
must be a blast to ride!
