ok, you've probably all seen that '38 autocycle on ebay. is it just me or at ten thousand dollars doesn't the pitted hardware stick out like a sore thumb? yeah the paint's cool, and i guess it's really rare, but man, it's TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS

That's actually not far off for that bike. More than a few have paid in that neighborhood for one. There was a blue one a month or so back for $14k buy it now, but I never saw what happened. All it takes is two people with that money and a desire to have one, personally I like a few other bikes better that run a little less, but then what do you do with it?

i guess my point isn't so much the price as it is the hyperbole about the long, extensive, 'restoration' and then you have shabby original condition parts mixed in with a (mostly) beautifully refinished bike........at that price :)

if i ever win the lottery i think i'll buy one, part it out cheap on the rrb classifieds, and make a klunker out of the rest just to see the reaction. i must have a mean streak

The ironic thing is that refinishing anything on it probably killed the deal in a lot of ways. Really that bike, the $10k (almost) "oooh, 63 and a HALF" Stingray, do very little for me. The Autocycle is about a million times better than some production looking Stingray, but look at the wild art deco looking stuff you can get for that kind of money.

Bendix, I think you should do it. I'll buy the seat for $25 shipped please...

Both are good to look at and admire, but I could never ride either one of those around. I'd be too afraid to get them knicked up or stolen. I don't have a museum, yet, so what would be the point in having one...???

I guess I'm talking this way because I don't have the money to buy one, or both. If I did have spare cash for at least one, I'd be talking differently.

Yeah my choice would be the fully restored one, that would be so fun to ride and show off on the car show circuit , parades, etc. 8)

That would be like painting a lamborghini with a sharpie

yeah.. for ten grand i expect EVERYTHING on that bike to be beyond MINT. personally, and reasonably, id give him 5, at most. if everything was perfect, 7. if i won the lottery, id buy the most expensive and rarest rolls i could find, and chop it up into a rat rod. flat black, wide whites, and the best touch.. pink wheels.
