Picked this up at a second hand shop today and besides for that its probably early 1930s and Elgin I dont know too much else. Here is what I do know-
Hubs are New Departure, not sure which model?
Tires are 28", seem to be tubeless? and actually hold air!
Rims are straight as an arrow...metal clad wood?
Seat/post are obviously wrong.
Grips are mis-matched.
This bike is a little older than what Im used to and any help and info would be much apreciated...

That is a great find!
That's what I'd do too. Maybe a set of 29'ers with 29 x 2.35 Schwalbe big Apples! Rollin' with huge balloons!

8) I'd say get a seat and keep it clean and lubed, but if you want to ride it a lot, put the wheels in the closet and get a 700c set to wear out.

Just going off of the Model A hub and Clad wheels I would say the bike is probably from the 20's. However, Elgin seemed to have used this same frame design for pretty long time. Probably from the early 20's well into the 30's in fact. From what I've seen, ND Model C's were starting to be used in the late 20's and early 30's. Of course this is assuming that the wheels are original to the bike. The "war time" tires aren't original and date from WWII.

Thanks for the input everyone. I havent had much luck finding a lot of info or old catalogs that would help me date it so Im going with mid 1920's I guess. I plan on washing it down and taking it for a quick ride tomorrow and then...

Late 30's would have a wider space between the 2 top bars and I don't believe they would have 28" tires. I am guessing mid 20's

WOW  That's an oldie :D Great score...again   Let's keep them coming

Umm, did you see my other Fresh Finds post? Ive picked up 6 bikes in the last 5 days at a total cost of $120 bucks and sold 1 already for $125...Im on a roll baby 8)

The Oriole was last listed as available with 28" tires in the fall 1935-6 Sears catalog. But it was second to the balloon tire model after 1933. And they switched to the V badge in '36. Cool bike! -Adam
