The extraordinary diversity of bicycles on this website is what keeps me coming back; plus the bonus of having made some good friends at the NERRB!

We are all  in our own special individual ways; because, if this hobby is about anything, it is about individual freedom of expression.

808, it sounds like you should've been an early 1900's bike pundit.
Sorry that the core of the bikes that this site caters to are so repugnant to you.:(

I'm sorry if you think that the core of the bikes on this site are fake board-trackers that just have inverted bars or fake klunkers that only have knobby tires. Frankly, I disagree. I think most ppl one here are putting a little bit more into it than that.

As for the fake patina, I think a lot of the bikes on here are genuinely rusty or characterized by otherwise dogged paint. But, yeah, I do see evidence that a lot of ppl are using chemicals or extreme neglect to force more surface rust on their frames. Yeah, it's their frame and they can do what they want with'm, but I'm pretty sure they could've sold the frame with the decent finish and bought 2 rusty frames with the proceeds. Seems wasteful, which is what bothers me much more than just the artifice.

It's all good. It's actually quite humorous how people's opinions of this style bike or that style bike haven't changed much in 96 years since that article. :13: There is even bike snobbery within the extremely loose "confines" of the Rat Rod Bike genre. :21:

Nah, snobbery is different. Snobbery is rude and almost everyone on this forum is polite to a fault. I haven't been posting or lurking here for long, but I've never seen a flame war here or even anything approaching one. Even the disagreement on this thread has been entirely civil, and that's the important thing.

Just wanted to weigh in here, if you like a bike that someone is building and like what they have done, post a message and let them know, if you don't like it, there is no need to say anything, usually the lack of comments will get the point across, and if it doesn't, it is still their bike to build how they wish anyway.

Of course if they are asking for suggestions, you could politely say something and perhaps offer an idea about a different way to achieve the look they want.

There is enough negativity and rudeness we all face everyday without having to deal with it in our hobby...

Luke.

That explains the lack of comments on my builds
