I now know that the "wack job Schwinn HD," I built for a friend years ago was and is a Hiwatha, thank you.

That old German linkage activated brakes bike, I have seen before, or one just like it. Teacher I had brought it into the bicycle shop I worked at for tires.....That was a nightmare of itself! But he said it was built by the English at a Raleigh plant right before the war, then imported to Germany. True or not I don't know, just what I was told by a cool 6'9"400# teacher, we all listened when he spoke!
