Great look you have going, there! I'd love to see some cork/wood/leather grips in place of those plasticky ones, though.

Lookin sweet man.... glad to see that thing in good hands....

Re: 1916 - 1933 Hartford (in progress)

Ya i found some really nice cork grims online, but i'm waiting until after i re-chrome (or brass plate) the bars to get them since they have to be glued on.

Build Update...

I stripped and painted the frame and fork (it will eventualy be powder coated though). Also i ordered a 1930's repro. track handle bar, and i layed down 7 coats of amber shellac (using 600 grit sand paper between each coat) on the cork grips. I'm ordering up a new stem too. ( The bars and stem wern't original anyway). Eventually the crank, sprocket, seat post etc. will be stripped and chromed :D Also, i plan on getting a honey leather racing saddle from Brooks :D

nice looking bike and glad to see it got a good home!
have you considered getting a set of period wood grips? sometimes they can be had fairly cheap

Re: 1926 Hartford (in progress) updated 6/28/10

I don't really like the wood grips i found on-line. I'm not worried about being 100% period correct either. Its a rider. Also the cork grips were a present from my fionce'...

Great looking bike! I love what you are doing with it. Have you considered nickle plate? I think that would be correct for the age of the bike and might even be a little less $ than chrome.

Re: 1926 Hartford (in progress) updated 6/28/10

I was thinking either chrome or maybe plate everything metal in brass or copper ??? :D (i know...$$$) (i don't really like the nickle though).

I just got my new pair of Soma " Major Taylor " track bars. They are styled after a pair of 1930's track bars. I ordered a double bolt stem from AAA Bicycles too. Since the grips will be glued on, i chose a double bolt, so i can still take the bars off if i need to. Not to mention i won't have to worry about scratching the bars.
