Hey all. Need a little help with this Hawthorne. Seller told me it was a '39 so I'm just looking for some more info. Serial looks to be D24743. What do ya all think?

If ya look on the underside of the BB there will be a serial #. Post it up here and I am sure we can narrow it down. Thats a great bike I have a couple similar and all ride well. I am guessing the serial starts with C or a D.

I was also wondering if it was a 39, wouldn't it have a skip tooth sprocket? I haven't seen any like this without.

I had thought that was a Monark (from the 50's) chain wheel, because it wasn't skiptooth, and someone had changed out the drivetrain. But your rims match, so it might be the way it came. I also thought everything back then was skiptooth. I'll do some research and see if I can find something.

Hunh... i should've looked closer.... I've seen pre-war skiptooth CWC sprockets like that, but they have 5 little jawns in'm; the sprocket on the bike in the OP is 1/2"-pitch and, more importantly, it has 6 jawns.... that's pretty much gotta be a Monark sprocket, as they tend to have 6 and be 1/2"-pitch...

The cranks are a lot shinier than the chain wheel too. I wonder if they had a cog that fit the original rear hub.
Wouldn't a Hawthorne have had this chain wheel?

Still takes nothing away from a great old bike!

I have 53 CWC with that chainwheel. So maybe it was changed out at some point with later model set up.

With that serial I would say it is late 38 or 39. I think the seat, fork, bars and stem are from a later bike.
