1950s Miele Women's Bicycle. German.

got this from a german woman named heidi.
her mother brought this bike to the states in the 50s.

it has some interesting features, including rod brakes in the front, a spoke destroying lock in the back, generator lights, wingnuts in the front.
it has 28" wheels.....anybody know where to get tires and tubes for these?

oh, and i got it for $40. the red paint is house paint though. all chrome got silver painted over it too. gonna take some time to get it all off.

Nice find. Looks like fun project. Cool Brake arm. How does that front brake work. Does it push down a shoe that contacts the tire?

Tire size if it is a decimal (28x 1.x) then it should be easy. From Sheldon's site. http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html#iso

28 x decimal 622 mm Some German tire companies use this non-standard designation for 622 mm ("700c") tires

if it is a fraction it could be tougher.
28 x 1 1/2 635 mm English, Dutch, Chinese, Indian Rod-brake roadsters

correct on the rod brake. no shoe n it though.
as far as the sizing, its 28 x 1 1/2, so dang.
i really like these wheels. gonna search ebay for tires.
