1954 Panther

I just picked up this 1954 Panther at the Salina KKOA meet for my wife. It was pretty rusty & crusty to start with but mostly original and in the rare one year only color combo. Looks pretty good after a good chrome and paint clean, new tires, lube & seat recover.

Nice cleanup. A one year only color that's rare? I didn't know that. I have one of those but I doubt it would clean up as nice as yours. What's your serial number? Maybe I'll have to raise the price on mine since it's rare. :wink: Gary

Well. now I'm not so sure about the one year color combo that's just what I was told by a friend that knows more about Schwinn's than I do, and I could only find it pictured in the 54 brochure. http://www.trfindley.com/flschwinn_1951 ... 54_04.html
But since your's is a K bike I think that would make it a 53, and mine is L51235 (6/23 - 6/28 1954). Still an odd color combo. Yours should clean up nice too. Here are a couple of the rusty/crusty before pictures.

Ive heard there were super rare "Blue" Phantoms with that color combo that were a supposed to be a special order thing around christmas one year. As far as i know theres only been a couple photos of patina'd blue phantom bikes (one showed up on ebay) but i think the whole blue phantom thing is still just considered heresay to most. Maybe that's where he got mixed up. Ive seen several pics of two tone blue girls bikes though. Either way, it's still a clean bike !!!
