Hello I found this 1962 schwinn and was wondering if anyone had any other knowledge on it. I believe it to be a typhoon. Handlebars are schwinn but I do not believe to be for this model Also front fork I know might not be for this model. Serial number says it’s a 62. Thanks for the time.

Yes 1962 Typhoon, one year twin straight bar. What size is it? Great frame lots of people look for them. That is not original springer fork it is an after market repop.

Thanks for the response I appreciate it! I believe it’s a 20” but not to sure. Are the handle bars for this model? Here is the serial number.

No the handle bars would have been the lower cruiser bar style like I show on my Typhoon. In fact they would be even slightly lower then the ones I show.. Someone tried to make that a Stingray. That is a great frame are you keeping it? Guys go wild for that frame and in 20 inch I would think you would have no trouble finding buyers. Keep me in mind.

Nice! Really nice Typhoon as well! I really do appreciate the knowledge as I’m fairly new to the Schwinn community. Yea i figured from the research I have done on it I that they tried to do something with it. Is the reason people look for it because it’s a one year? Yea I am keeping it it’s a project I want to work on with my two kids.

Yes the one year only and some not a fan of the cantilever frame. A bike not a stingray that is built like one is sometimes called a "pig " bike. Good luck and looking forward to seeing how it goes.

Yes, also the design is really cool. The twin tubes sweeping back and becoming the stays make for such nice lines. Plus, as the madman stated, it's not a cantilever, makes it somewhat unique, people like that

Thanks for the response Thundrrr. I really didn’t know much about the bike when I saw it but it was going to the trash so I immediately jumped on the opportunity of taking it and I’m really glad I did! Now to find some original parts for it can’t wait!

Actually, Schwinn changed the frame design in mid '61. So there ARE Tornados, Flying Stars, and Skippers with the same frame, with later '61 serials. The Typhoon replaced the Tornado and FS as base model in the lineup. The Skipper continued for a year or so with the regular canti frame. ~Adam
