I bought a humber and a hercules the weekend my bike got stolen for about that.. instead of his elgin... (regrets were had).. im hope salvage a 3 speed hub one brooks in way worse shape and 2 cool chain gaurds.. this dude has rad stuff and great prices!!! Id say good luck with sale.. but i guess enjoy the sale is fitting.
*edit sorry to be clear my regret was not go purchase from him.. wasted money elsewhere the bikes i got where clist popups...

The drive-side stick controls the clutch and the left controls which sun gear is used. It's essentially two different three speeds in a single hub, one very wide range and one narrow range. However, it is a 5 speed because two of the 6 gears give the same ratio, effectively only counting as one gear (it's the normal/direct drive that doubles, so we only count it once).

Don't compare this to a regular 3 speed. It's a 5 speed Sturmey S5 early model on a tall frame complete with an add-on pump and a nice Prestube rack. I consider this a good deal.

I think the Brooks is actually a model 67, not dated.
The hub is dated 69, which gives a closer year of fabrication.
Beautiful. Never had one.

I overhauled one here at my current shop not too long ago. Sweet hubs, fun ride, all I wanted to do was keep shifting between gears! The price on this one is a steal IMO, paint looks great, graphics intact, pump, and the rare 5speed, for $200? Smoking deal!

Stop it.. i keep thinking about this bike and shifter... i dont even ride skinny tired bikes.... honestly im more scared of meeting the guy.. my habit really dose not need a "connect" localy...

I had a free spirit 5 speed like that if you like to go fast a very fun bike to ride mine had the small lever shifters . But very fun

So far im dying over the elgin, this is strong compition... and im interested to see what you have laying around as parts...
Im sure will make your wife happy, and my friends grow more conserned for my well being.
At least id know i was getting the good stuff than who knows what random off the street back ally deals...
