1979 schwinn Mantaray clone •Finished•

I want a fastback but they are a little small. I'd love a Manta Ray but I'm kinda cheap so I picked up a cheap 24" Collegiate. I saw one built up like this one eBay. So yeah I'm a cheap rip off artist. My plan is to use as many schwinn parts as I can. The bars are off of a 75 fastback.

Finally had some free time to mock up my bike. I scored a cheap girls collegiate 5speed at goodwill. So I’m stealing stuff from it for this bike.

The rear fender looks great on the front. I’ll steal the mounting bracket from the original front fender

I was just thinking that I have a 3 speed camelback laying in the garage for one year or so. I don't even remember the color. But I have THE GREEN SEAT and some bars leftovers. I should try one.

What bars did you use on yours @CRASH ? They look to be a bit wider at the top, and have more of an angle from stem area to grips, vs the more straight up.

They were Schwinn, not Wald, but I don't know specifically from what. I bought them in a package deal.

the bars were wald #880 on fastbacks or #8069 on reg rays. i was told this by a retired schwinn dealer. the 880 bars were small the 8069 bars were larger. they were sent to schwinn unmarked and schwinn stamped at the factory. go to niagara cycle.com and you can read the dimensions.

Just found this on another site. Apparently, all the Schwinn 'apes' were different pre '70, then the went to the parallel style.

I noticed @ParkRNDL had a wanted up for some. I like the 'V' vs the 'U' style too. Figured this info might help

Hey thanks! I've looked at 880 and 8069... the 880s are too small. The 8069s are the right size but not crazy about the shape... but that's what I might end up with.

hey cool! I dragged mine out and got it together about a month ago. Rides pretty well. Just noticed they're both front freewheel...
