I have decided to keep it and put a few thousand miles on it. If anyone has a correct set of bars available I would be stoked!
Thanks fellow bike friends [emoji1] [emoji106]

1981 Schwinn King Sting 5 speed 26 inch bmx beach cruiser. Rides and stops pretty good. I picked this up at a yard sale over the weekend. 18 inch frame. Original Ukai 26 inch rims.

Cool find...man I wish I was in buy mode instead of sell mode right now....I'd be trying to get you to ship in to the Texas Coast.....

According to the serial it's a 1981..great bike nonetheless

A "KR serial" on the headtube is October 1980. The number on the badge indicates the build date. Not that there's any significant difference between an '80 and an '81; these are some extremely rad, 4130, fillet-brazed frames from the cage. NOT the typical electroforged Chicago Schwinn. They built these alongside the Paramounts.

I think the date stamped on the headbadge would be the assembly date. Frames prob. run in groups of the same color and then stored till needed. Schwinn did not make a lot of changes quickly.

Wanted to give a update on my time with the King Sting. It's been 7 month's of fun with it so far. Probably put about 500 miles on it. Still on the hunt for the correct bars but I did put some more appropriate looking bars on it in the mean time. I also added the correct color gum wall repop tires. I have serviced all moving parts on it also. Even had new cables and housing installed since the old were starting to fail. Recently the rear hub steal bearing cups failed so I bought a NOS hub off ebay (wrong color) to rebuild mine. Should have it up and going again in a day or two. I have rode this bike all over Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Long Beach, and even took it to San Francisco.
