Went on a ride on my old Huffy cruiser this morning around the parking lots here at the apartments. Decided not to go through one parking lot, but turned into it on a whim. Down at the end of the lot I saw 2 cruiser bikes at the dumpster. Rode back to my apt, then walked back and brought them home. The pink step-thru is a Huffy Cranbrook, and the men's bike is a Murray Westport, USA made. Only the tires were flat on both. The Murray needs a little cosmetic work, but I'm going to keep it original, with no repainting or polishing, and invert the handlebars for the crouched, classic racing bike look. I found my other Huffy cruiser at the same dumpster about 2 months ago, and am planning on tricking it out a bit for the sept/Oct build off, in the step through category.

Yeah, Cap'n...I think it's perfect. I have the old black and white Huffy Good Vibrations 26 inch step through that I mentioned on here before, and I'll probably stick with that build. Black and white checkerboeard theme. But if I can't get those dual springer forks to work, I may take this Cranbrook and do a total pink-out on it, since most of it is hot pink anyway. Hot pink glitter banana seat on it, of course lol. But I'm not sure. Thanks for the idea.

Yeah, Kevin...it is a very well made, sturdy bike. Needs a new rear wheel, as this one is bent. Definitely a bone shaker when ridden lol. But I'm not sure if any single speed rear wheel will work, or if it has to be an actual Murray wheel. Any ideas?
Murray didn't make wheels. Most beach cruisers use the same wheels. Most any rear wheel off a beach cruiser is the same thing. A 26 x 1 3/8ths with skinny tires is a different size. The new wheel doesn't need to match the cog teeth either, you can swap them out, there's a C clip that holds them in. Or add a link or two to the chain. I'll bet other single speed wheels have the same cog though. They will fit just like the one on there now.

I have one that was just like yours. It is sort of a test mule. I have had several 26x 1.50 and 1.75 wheels on it. I've used tires ranging from 26 x 1.95 to 2.125
559 is the size of your 26" tire.
559 in which dimension?
That's the size in mm, the tire will say 559 on it along with 26 x 1.75 or 2.125 or other decimal. If it shows a fraction like 3/4 or 3/8ths then it's a different size.

Thats great info. The tires are 26 x 2.125. So...would an old schwinn wheel work for the back, with the hub width and everything?
