2012 Kos Kruiser Raw finish

Got this 2012 kos off fleabay a couple of weeks back. I bought a chrome one when Mongoose reissued them
in 2012 but sold it a short time after as i was out of storage space and wasnt using it. I remember the original in a bike store when i was 16 in 83 and thought it was the greatest thing i had ever seen. I never forgot that feeling. The reissues are well spec’d, double butted cromo frame, cromo cranks, rynolite rims, avid brakes, tange head set, very cool machined bespoke hubs. I’ve lifted the stem 40mm and fitted a big crook bar from Paul at Atomic cycles. It was just a coincidence the only bars he had left were in the raw finish which just need a coat of clear to match the bike. I actually bought the bars for one of my other bikes before i spotted the Kos for sale. Really comfy to ride now other than the saddle and light too.

Got the new bars installed today. Rather than clear coat them I treated them with this stuff called Rust prevention magic which i have used to treat raw metal steering parts like tie rod ends. You heat the parts first with a heat gun then brush it on. Once the part cools you can polish it with a rag. Has worked well for me in the past on a mustang restoration although the car has not been subject to any extreme conditions. Also fitted a brooks b67 from one of my other bikes. Seriously sweet ride which hangs wheelies with ease.

Took the Kos on a ride through town today. It is so different to ride than my other cruisers which i’m guessing must be due to the short rear triangle (40-60mm shorter). It accelerates like a cut cat from the lights and up hills is way easier on the old knees.

Standard gearing was 40/18. I'm now running a 16t rear. A little more work up hills but still ok on my old knees. Most comfortable bike I own too. Suits my build perfectly now after the simple bar change. Bargain bike when you consider the quality of the frame and components.

The 7 speed avenger I recently put together also has the shorter rear triangle but I haven't had a chance to take it for a long ride yet and compare against the Kos.
