22.2 stem in a 21.1 steer tube

Once, I cut the bottom half of a 21.1mm stem, and welded it onto the top half of a 22.2mm stem, so that the nicer stem was on top. This worked, for the most part. Right at the edge of where the stem was buried in the head tube, there was a weld bead there, but it wasn't very noticeable, and I'd say it was successful.
