Ok ladys and gents, this is my first attempt at logging a build so bear with me please..lol.. My girlfriend and I love going out for rides, her ten year old son always tries to jump on one of my 26 inch cruisers, which even with the seats as low as they get are just a little bit to tall for him. I was looking for a sting ray to buy, but then decided I wanted something bigger, he rides a 20' Mongoose and he is out growing it... I told him about the build and he is really exited, so I of course are really anxious to get it done..

Im starting with a 1951 Schwinn American frame that I have thanks to bogmonster... so wish me luck, and thank you!

Here it is with random parts, I just wanted to get an Idea on size and weather or not to go through with the Muscle bike Idea...and to tell you the truth...I love it!!

Re: 24" Schwinn Muscle Bike **1st UPDATE**

Here it is put together, the problem Im having is deciding what Sprocket/Crank size to go with, The boy is ten years old and I dont want the bike to feel to heavy for him when he pedals, so I was thinking of going with a the smaller Lucky seven sprocket, but I really like the look of the bigger Schwinn mag or even the Sting Ray mag if I could get my hands on one, what would you guys suggest?

I will be dropping the frame off on Monday to get sand blasted, and Im going to try and paint it by the weekend... :D

Re: 24" Schwinn Muscle Bike **1st UPDATE**

The bigger mag chainring would sure look better , just get a bigger rear sprocket to go with it .

I agree. No way would I paint this bike.

Thanks fellas Im with you both, I really Really dont want to paint it, If anything maybe just clear coat it to protect the patina it has already, but my boy wants it yellow. There are two things I could do, #1 Convince him..lol.. #2 Find another frame, Ill keep you guys posted. :D

I'd squirt it yellow if that is what the boy wants. It's just old paint on an old bike frame. It might look cool to me just the way it is, but if I was a kid, I 'd want shiny new paint. With the whitewalls and all that chrome, that bike will look great when painted yellow.
+1... I honestly fell in love with the way it looks as is, but ultimately this bike is for a Ten year old that like you metioned wants shiny new paint :) P.S. I am looking for another frame

Re: 24" Schwinn Muscle Bike **1st UPDATE**

Dropped off the frame at the sanblasters, I was told It should be done and could pick it up tomorrow! :D :D

Re: 24" Schwinn Muscle Bike **2nd UPDATE**PAINT**

I like it! My 14 y/o son has been wanting to build something and I think this would be perfect! I like the bright yellow but I think I liked the orig red better... But that's just me. Looks great!

Re: 24" Schwinn Muscle Bike **2nd UPDATE**PAINT**

That's going to be a sweet ride.
I also loved the patina red that it had, but this aint my bike. You made the right choice to follow your boy's vision and not ours.
It would be cool if you could find a 24" with a 3 speed hub and put a stickshift on it.
Muscle bikes rule!

Re: 24" Schwinn Muscle Bike **2nd UPDATE**PAINT**
