I like it! My 14 y/o son has been wanting to build something and I think this would be perfect! I like the bright yellow but I think I liked the orig red better... But that's just me. Looks great!
You know its actually a great size for this type of build, it a perfect Teen-Adult Stingray. My boy is turning ten next month, and hes a little small for it but Im sure he'll manage.. BTW I also really liked the patinad Red and wished I could have kept it that way..but seeing the smile on my boys face will be great! and thanks by the way :D

That's going to be a sweet ride.
I also loved the patina red that it had, but this aint my bike. You made the right choice to follow your boy's vision and not ours.
It would be cool if you could find a 24" with a 3 speed hub and put a stickshift on it.
Muscle bikes rule!
Thanks, I appreciate the compliment. I also loved the red specially once I put it together.. I know my boy will be happy and thats what matters..
Funny you mention the 3 speed cause thats what Im looking for now..lol.. Im having fun with this build and Im thinking of building another one just for me, in red, with a 3 speed..lol..stay tunned

i got a 24" 51 also one of my favorite bikes at the moment i like where yours is going looking good and the yellow...man that pops 8)
what you thinking of doing with the fenders?
This one is turning into just that " One of my favs". The yellow turned out great and I cant wait to see it done...as for fenders, I think Im leaving this one fender less. I found a set of 24" NOS muscle bike fenders on EBay, but I kinda like the look it has now..

Re: 24" Schwinn Muscle Bike **3rd UPDATE**ASSEMBLED**

Alright I woke up early this morning just to put this bad boy together, Its not finished yet It still needs a few details and to send parts out for chrome plating but I have exhausted my bicycle fund for now...lol..
All Im missing is a chain, pedals, rear reflector, Headlight, Grips and decals..thats it for now..
Thanks for the compliments guys and I hope you like it :)

Re: 24" Schwinn Muscle Bike **3rd UPDATE**ASSEMBLED**

Tell your boy he needs to come up with a name to christen the bike with.
It looks like a Lemon Peeler, but that is taken.
Maybe Banana Bomb or Banana Peel.
You could paint the name on the chainguard to come up with some decals for it.

Yeah Ive been telling him just that, and hes thinking of a few.. Im sure he'll come up with something clever..
He actually likes the Old "Spitfire" Logo and name..either way we'll see what he decides :D
By the way Ill mention both of yours to him if you dont mind, you never know he might like em and you might Honorus by naming the bike :)

Here's a reasonably-priced place to get all types of lettering. I have bought lettering from this guy and it is very good stuff.

http://doityourselflettering.com/

Click on the "Create" button and off you go. There are sizing options, special effects, borders/shadows, and a multitude of colors and fonts to help you get about anything you would want...

...hey, speaking of fonts, did you hear about the font that walked into the bar? Oh, you didn't? Okay, I'll tell you.

Anyway, the font walks into the bar, sits down, and asks for a beer.

The bartender looks the font up and down and says, "Sorry buddy, we don't serve your type in here."
Thanks for that info Peatbog, I''ll have to look at that website and see what they have. BTW the Font Bar Joke...AWESOME...lol..thanks again:)

Re: 24" Schwinn Muscle Bike **4th Small UPDATE**NOS GRIPS**

Here is a really quick update, I was in Gardena Ca. today and decided to visit Felix's Bike Shop.. They are one of the few shops in the area if not the only shop that actually stock and sell vintage Schwinn parts and even complete bikes.
Since I was in the area I decided to stop by and see what they had lying around..lol.. actually I wanted to see if they had the Schwinn decals in black for the bike, they didnt have any in stock but they told me to check back on Wednesday.. I didnt really see anything else I needed but right before I left I asked to see if maybe, just maybe they had NOS or Repop Grips.
To my surprise they tell me they might and ask me what color? I asked for white, because thats what I wanted, but the guy says "sorry.. you wouldn't happed to want yellow would you? I have a set of NOS Lemon Peeler grips" he says, and at that point all I could say was "I'LL TAKE THEM"..lol..I guess it was meant to be... thanks for looking and for the compliments..I'll keep you posted :)

Re: 24" Schwinn Muscle Bike **4th Small UPDATE**NOS GRIPS**

I really wouldn't have painted this bike, but with that being said, It looks KILLER in yellow. Good job!!!!! Yellow's not easy to paint. I know it's what the son wanted, so that's cool. I might have to build me one. Lets see, I have two or three possible candidates to choose from. None are Schwinns though, but I don't think it matters. Oh, and the grips make it.

Hey Thanks Big Fat Whitewalls..I would have kept it red, I loved the patina on it but I dont regret painting it, I think its coming together quite nice and my boy is going to be really happy.. and the yellow was a pain but worth it..haha. as for your canidates, they dont have to be Schwinns at all :D

Re: 24" Schwinn Muscle Bike **4th Small UPDATE**NOS GRIPS**

you'd give yourself a new set of problems (figuring out brakes mainly), but a back wheel and derailleur from a 24" mountain bike would give you gears for pretty cheap. that way the bigger front sprocket wouldn't be as big of a deal.

oh yeah, i'm painting a bike yellow hopefully before spring. i'm calling it "the sun king".
