26" BMX Build - a few tweaks 3-2-13 The GT Mach Wannabe

I am reviving this build from the last build off. I just didn't have the time to finish it. I want to turn this thing into an 80's style bmx, but bigger so I can actually ride it. I am leaning toward painting the frame and bars white and going with a blue or orange accent theme, but that is still up in the air...

The frame when I got it

A little detour - i built it up to take it to the beach over the summer

Torn back down and started prepping the frame

Bought a block style pyramid stem - i would like to get something a bit more retro, but this will do

Found some mini axle pegs. they are threaded differently on both ends, luckily they fit the wheels I have perfectly. the 26T for the front wheel and flip them over to the 24T for the back wheel

Also found these big CW style bars on an old bike in my in-laws barn

Got a few more parts for the build.
A gold and blue Sungino chainring
A different stem - will take a little work
A anodized gold front brake setup - just running the coaster brake in back
And a nos set of Schwinn cruiser blue and skin wall tires like the ones that came on a King Sting

got a little sidetracked on my Manta Ray project...

will be using a set of Profile racing cranks

other than that i am going back and forth on painting vs. getting it powder coated

I would say if you can afford the powder go with that. The durability is way better.

Finally making some progress. I decided to paint it. I got tired of sanding, so I got some Jasco paint stripper. That stuff is brutal, but it works!

Ready for paint

Primer

3 coats of white enamel paint and 2 coats of gloss clear enamel

I'm likin the way this is starting to look. The profile cranks are a great touch, I love profiles!!!!! The gold parts will really set everything off nicely with the blue.

Unfortunately that Sugino chainring wouldn't work. The offset of the spider smashed it up against the profile cranks. That is why I got the GT ring
