I found a 1936 Ford Tail light on one of my shelves. I am pretty sure it is one of the two I bought for my pickup years ago (but only used one since it is legal to do it and I like to irritate local law enforcement). There is no way I can run a regular bulb so I picked up a LED conversion from the local parts house. The lens also had a hair line crack but a local motorcycle shop in Denver (No School Choppers) does some recasts every now and then so I picked one up.
First step was to figure out where to put it and how to mount it. I was going to do a full tire hugging sissy bar but thought the light would be really tall and I didn't like the looks. So I designed and fabbed a little bracket.
Welded in place. Funny thing is I have had this particular bike for 15 years and have never touched the frame except to do the kickstand.
Drilled out the wire feed hole to fit a toggle switch, used some Velcro to stick the battery to the back of the switch, and wired everything in.
I wired the brake lights hot so it is bright. It may take some life out of the battery but who cares. The life I save may be mine.
