This is another Kentucky barn find. It's mostly complete but VERY rusty.

Started disassembly and rust removal.

The fenders have a lot of pitting and were supposed to be chrome.

"Holy Fender Batman!"

We'll see if it can be saved and painted.

The rear fender is really bad. It has some rust thru and the mounting tab is gone. Hardly any chrome left!

I sanded and wire brushed it and used Rustolium Rust remover and wire brushed some more. Then treated it with rust converter.

I will wet sand that with 400 grit before body filler.

After sand blasting. I didn't remove the decal yet because I want to see if I can get a replacement cut.

This will probably be as close as I get to a Western Flyer X-53 so I'm going to fixer up!

Fab a fender tab.

I used a cheap fender from a Huffy Regatta 3 speed. Cut the tab section out and shaped it to fit where the chain runs past. I will epoxy it and add some 1/16 pop rivets unless someone has a better idea to fasten it.

This is the fabricated tab installed. I have been working on filling the heavy pitting left from the rust removal.

I used UPOL glazing putty. It's easy to apply and sands smooth.

The front fender has a few small dents but is in a lot better shape. Next step will be to apply epoxy primer then a couple of coats of filler primer to both fenders and sand smooth.
