Re: New Project Truck- Running like new!

Sweet truck!
The 1973-87 Chevy/GMC's are one of the best looking pick up trucks in my humble opinion...they have those nice clean body lines.

...i've been lookin' for a '73-'75 shorty (the smog exempt years of that body style here in Cali). Not easy to find. Most are either longbeds, step sides, rusted out junk, or someone's over-built, over-priced show truck.

Re: New Project Truck- Running like new!

I took advantage of the nice weather this weekend to get some interior work done. My brothers got me the Mexican Blankets I wanted to use for Christmas. Yesterday I made my seat cover. I used spray glue to attach some canvas to the blanket. I then put brass grommets around the perimeter to let me lace it to the seat.

Today I made the kick panels for the bottom of the doors. I used the remains of the original cardboard to make new backers out of thin plywood.

More spray glue and the blanket and backer become one.

I am going to make my headliner and dash cover out of more blanket.

Still on the agenda is the air bags, four-link, and paint. I have thought about several different paint schemes over time in this project: old school scallops, matte two-tone, blacked out...

I decided on what I wanted after I saw this at the Starbird-Devlin Car Show.

Re: New Project Truck- Running like new!

Just picked up a '83 C20 with 45,ooo miles. Unfortunately Im having title troubles. Need to do a bonded title, not fun.

Re: New Project Truck- Running like new!

I hate messing with titles, every time it is more headache than it's worth. Now I won't touch a car without a title unless I am buying it strictly for parts.

He signed it wrong, wont take care of it, so my only option is that.
Not sure the legality of your state but here I have obtained a few titles through a mechanic's lien. Also you could have a friend put the truck in a storage unit that is NOT in your name then don't pay the rent on it and buy it back when they auction it off.

I like these and the '56 V8 grill.

Re: New Project Truck- Running like new!

The weather over the past week has been better than average and it gave me some time to get some more interior work done.

I pulled the remains of the old headliner down and cleaned up the fiberglass backer mat. Some spray glue and another blanket turns into a headliner.

I am hoping I have enough of this blanket left to cover the visors and make them line up.

Today I picked up another can of spray glue and the blanket that was used for the kick panels found it's way onto the dash.

Once the glue has cured I am going to cut out the VIN slot and the defroster vents on top and the front dash panel.

Re: New Project Truck- Running like new!

Is that a aftermarket dash cover or did ya pull the dash? Once I get mine reg'd I'd like to do something with the dash/door panels/and a seat cover.

Looks good. Love the truck.

I pulled the dash a couple months ago to try and repair the cracking that is typical on these trucks. When the repair didn't work out I decided to cover the whole thing with one of the blankets my brothers got me for Christmas.

Re: New Project Truck- Running like new!

I got the cover trimmed up and put the dash trim in place.

Also trimmed the defrosters and installed these inserts I found at the junk yard.

I think I may take the fake aluminum trim from the dash, doors, and instrument cluster to my powder coating guy and have him Hydro-Dip them. Here are some things he has done.

Re: New Project Truck- Running like new!

Very nice!
My DD is a 1986 C-10, has a 383 w/all the goodies under the hood, I love my "pepaw," truck!!! Quarter million miles on the chassis, 5 motors later, 2 front ends, 2 transmissions, about 50 sets of tires, 2.5 paint jobs, 4 new fenders(all fronts, don't ask), 1 new door, 1 heater core!, 1 rear end, and just about rebuilt everything else.

Re: New Project Truck- Running like new!

Air bags and the 4-link set-up will be here soon so I needed to tie up some loose ends.

I finally finished up the dash.

A little dash art. I am going to cover it with black and white decals until it is full.

The rally wheels and chrome cleaned up nice. I am planning on having the wheels powder coated in the future.

I hope to spend next weekend getting my suspension installed.

Re: New Project Truck- Mono-chrome!

This is coming along great!! Can't wait to see what's next.

I'm a Ford guy; but I have a soft spot and good memories of those era trucks.

I'd love to have a Suburban with a big-block and a 4-speed.

Ratted out, of course. 8)

Re: New Project Truck- Mono-chrome!

Looking good Cameron! How many cans of spray bomb have you used so far & are there any mexican blankets left in Mexico???
