A little help dating this Schwinn

I picked up this barn find BF Goodrich Schwinn from CycleTruck a while back, and set about finding the date on it. I looked on the serial number tables, and it's a pre '48, so out of luck there. I then took the cranks out, and unlike my 41 DX, there is no date on the cranks - just AS & CO on one side, then a diamond and a "3" on the other side.

I'm guessing it's a 46 or 47 because of the direction of the dropouts and other frame characteristics, and the pre 48 serial #. Seem about right?

I don't know what year it is, but damn, look at that bearing surface. No pits, looks good. Run it. After 70 years! That's a Schwinn.

Your bike is a D97X, or "DX" for short. Check the kickstand. Tapered is a '46. Gary
