A Lowly NEXT cruiser

Found this NEXT 3 speed cruiser at the curb out for the trash. The owner said I could have it. Aired up the back tire and threw a front tire on it. Didn't have a seat post but my Schwinn mountain bike used the same 26.8 post so I could test it. Shifts great. Has some squall and grind to the coaster I suspect it is dry on grease. So far I have only inspected the headset and it was totally dry. This one has been "stored" in the Florida sun and torrential rains. All total it was missing the kickstand, seat and post. Needs tires. Not much but it adds to the fleet when the grandkids are here. I like the fact it's aluminum, the rest of mine are steel with the exception of the Schwinn S20 Mtb.

What he said! I've been watching for a LaJolla for years (which I think that red one is). I'm just not willing to pay over $50...and when one pops up nearby, it has been well over $50. When they are $50 or under...they aren't nearby .

Compared to some of my heavier bikes it turns with more stability. And that is.on one dry rotted and one bald tire.

I picked up a Next Monteray Bay on CL . These are really good (cheap ) bikes ! Only the UCP spokes are lowly .

Wow! They are nice frames. The forks and other parts like fenders, crank and bars are really cheapo tho.

Pulled the crank after church today. Just totally dry of grease and contaminated with sand. Ditto the chain and pedals.

Nexus 3 with a coaster brake. That's a good start alone.

Well the 3 speed hub ended up toast brake wise. My disassembly/reassembly effort finished it off. So I installed a one speed coaster. Now it is geared 40/18. I'm only out a new seat post and clamp, two new hook worm style black walls, a KMC chain and a pair of super cheap grips. Down the road I may grind the cable looms off the bottom and polish or paint the aluminum frame. This is one quick and nimble cruiser. I'm glad I found it on the curb.

I should add that the rear wheel nuts barely engaged on the 1 spd. instead of the wider 3 spd. However, the frame easily pulled in and all is square and true.
