Advice RE: Schwinn Apple Krate

The guy that I got my Shelby and Sears Murray from called me the other day with an offer - a mint condition (his words) no speed Apple Krate. He wants $400 for it. I have not seen it yet, but I trust that it is in the condition he says it is. I also know that definitions of mint vary from person to person.

Is the price too much or does it sound about right? I have seen other similar Schwinns on here, CL and eBay for less, which is why I am hesitant. I also am picking up a new mt. bike next weekend, so I shouldn't spend the money. I wonder if I can just wait him out.

Any thoughts?

$400 sounds low for "mint condition"...lately it seems like any single "mint condition" part off a krate bike will get you $50, so it doesn't take long to be right side up on a $400 bike.
