What year is your DX?

Mine is 1950.

You cant just jam a standard size aluminum anything down a Schwinn hole.

A Schwinn seat post is a b*stard size.13/16" ...21.15mm

B607 on here will know for sure.

I know a lot of guys make their own posts. I need a tall one and I want to go aluminum for my schwinn dx. any suggestions on what to use?

Early Mountainbikers used solid 13/16 aluminum rod in their Klunkers, that should work for what you`re doing...

Maybe a solid rod,is a good solution? Or at least a thick-walled tube,for strength.
+1
Used solid AL rod stock at first then modified it with a cheap ($5) mountain bike post clamp
Some MTB seat posts are 2 pieces (clamp pressed into tube), had a great welder guy match them up

Kinda heavy but is super solid, no tube bending when clamping it hard
Couldn't find AL tube the right size. Saw some AL fluted BMX stems for $$$$
Good Luck

check out "metal sales" companies in your area.
they will usually have a good selection of tubing and round bar stock.
13/16 is just another size to them.
they will also be able to cut it to length for you.
