Re: aluminum whell powdercoated?

about the only thing done with aluminum is anodizing, ad easy-off oven cleaner will remove it. Have fun polishing. Youll be black, and tired.

Not sure about that. I took a Worksman aluminum rim today. I first soaked it for an hour
in Draino. It will remove anodizing.....nothing. I put aircraft stripper on it ....nothing. I'm
not sure what they use but everything I have tried so far just cleaned the dust off.

Most likely it is powder coated. Aluminum is powder coated quite frequently. Paint stripper will not even touch it. Most of time you have to blast it off. Not as easy on aluminum without marring the surface. There are some products that will remove PC, but they are really expensive.

You could call a local powder coater and see if they could chemically strip it for you.

Not that many powder coaters around her. Only one that I know of,
I was just playing and a bunch of cost would stop the project quick.

ok, if its powdercoat, acetone and ANY strong toluene based solvent will remove it. It is a plastic......melt it away with solvent. I'd try soaking in kerosene, or diesel fuel. I know for a fact that acetone, and plastic pipe cleaner will etch it. Soaking will def soften it. I was led to believe that powdercoat was like a ceramic. I spent 20K on coating equipment for my company. Guess what? Its not ceramic, not even close. Yea, solvents etch it, BADLY......
