I have a friend that has his PK Ripper from his youth. A chrome looptail frame with Tuf Neck etc... He is looking to sell and trying to find a value. Ebay is a mixed bag. He figure it may be worth $500 but I think maybe more. Any thoughts?

all depends on originality and what components are used. condition is also obviously very important as lets face it most of these bikes were well used so to find a clean example would be worth more. with out seeing pics and depending on how early of a ripper it is i would be safe saying at least 500. really need to see a few pics. vintage bmx are sort of valued like stingrays. most did not survive so the ones that are original and in good condition command big bucks where as a rough orignal or restored bike wont bring as much.

No less than $500.00 for shure like Karfer just said.

in fact..after finding BMX after BMX lateley myself..
everything Karfer just said is correct.

I have a few guys here that purchase the odd BMX from me.....
( they know I spend time at garage sales and the recycle
depot ) and I have learned a lot from those guys..

so..exactly what Karfer just said above is what I
would say is the same up here in western Canada..

But hey..yaa never know when you might bump into
that GUY that raced one way back in the day...

and he gets all nostalgic and wants one! BAD!
and pays more for it.

peace,
Kev.

He was passing through town and I looked at it briefly. No pics though. Probably okay parts but not great.
Gold Araya rims w/ pad wear and Sun hubs.
Perfect gold, square corner Tuf Neck.
KKT gold pedals -very good condition.
Tires were original yellow/gold but severly cracked.
One piece chrome cranks.
Shotgun seat.

The frame looks really good, no rust or pits on chrome. PK5XXXX

I told him to list on local CL(Seattle) for $600 to test waters. Thanks for the help

Looptail Rippers & Quads can bring big dollars depending on the year. Tuff necks have also been known to bring in big money on the bay. Your friend will get more money out of the bike if he were to part it out rather than sell it complete. I'd wager that chances are pretty good that whoever buys the bike complete, would part it out anyways.

SE's are VERY high on the desirable list with the the oldschool BMX collectors.

Check out vbmx.com or os-bmx.com - there's a wealth of SE/Ripper/Quad info there. BTW - VBMX isn't the friendliest site to new members (they charge for membership) but you can search the forums without logging in.

Hope this is useful info

yea i would say starting at 600 is fair. i would think having a 1 peice crank would hurt it as by that time most had the cool SR 3 peice, or even stronglites. still before redline flights i think. sounds like a cool bike i had a chance to buy one two years ago for 150 and passed it up just because i did not have the cash. now i regret it

thanks for the replies.... I only wish I could have the commission off the sale. It was a nice lookin bike. Any bike with a looptail has a heart with me.
