Springer sorta looks like what I've seen on columbia's but I don't reconize the frame at all..

It's a Monark, probably a late 40's-early 50's model

Cool it popped up on locally for 40 bucks, going to pass it on to my buddy that has been looking for a bike to start working on.

Chain ring is a Monark, but IMO that frame is not.
The way the top tube sort of wraps the seat tube and continues to the wishbone looks like some late 50s-1960s Columbia frames.
Drop outs, seat and chain stays don't look Monark either.
Any better pictures?

Could be a Huffman built? They had a similar style, very similar

Well it has a columbia head badge on the bike, although I couldn't find any serial numbers.

That's a Columbia springer, but I think that's a later frame. Possibly an Evans or Ross, or even an early Emory. -Adam

I think that Monarkofsocal nailed it. The other frames mentioned usually (if not always) had a bent frame tube from the fork to the crank, not straight like the one in question.
