$30 bucks a wheel is usually what my lbs wants for basic shimano stuff, but id want to know what brand coaster brake it had, and at that price id say they were probably cheapo no name rims, fine for cruisin though

seems I remember a seller that used to part cruisers out for the wheels, seats and bars...new bikes, maybe damaged in shipping?...

micargi is a brand of bike, my aunt has a micargi but ive never seen it in person and i think hers had overspoked wheels anyway.

Last set of rims I bought off ebay(seller disappeared) i was pretty disappointed. Wheels weren't true, bad fit, cheap chinese brakes, and seller pretty much called me a liar when I told him they weren't true. Said I could send them back to him and he'd true them. I said the cost of shipping would be more than it would take to have it trued at my shop here, adn why didn't he true them in the first place... Never heard back.

well, i can buy a set from debbie (bikeworldusa) that are heavy duty chrome for the same price.....i just wanted to paint them.

anybody have a good source for inexpensive wheels? i think i may try choppersus, but theirs are still like $90 for a pair of black rimmed wheels.

As much as I hate giving them money, I am going to go buy a cheap Huffy cruiser from WalMart today and steal the wheels and drivetrain for my new project.

The website price is $79.88, but last time I was there the in-store price was around $98. If I can sweet talk a manager into selling it for the lower price, I'm taking it. That price alone is less than the just wheels from BikeWorld with shipping, and that's not factoring in tires, tubes, and rim strips. Then add in all the other parts and you have a quick, easy, and inexpensive way to get cruising on another better frame.

I bought a Schwinn DelMar at Wallyworld for less than 90 bucks, used the wheels, seat, bars, gooseneck, and chain, then I put a china-made springer on the front, gathered up some other parts, and put together a cool little bike that I gave to the neighbor kid who mows my lawn. He was stoked on it too. Those wallyworld or kmart cruisers aren't a bad deal I don't think for parts. Just my opinion... I also used the cool ducktail fenders and rack on various projects.

Great idea guys....
i may have to see what ole wally world has...
i cant tell my woman though, these are for her xmas bike, and she is a walmart boycotter.
she dont hafta know!

I picked up a girl's murray last night at the thrift shop for $40 just for the wheels. But it turns out I can use the seatpost and seat and handlebars and bearing cups and crank and chain too.Check the local thrift stores before giving the Devil... I mean Walmart your money. I tend to agree with your girl. I hate Walmart. For a few reasons. One is they make it so i can't afford to shop anywhere else, and if I go there needing to buy just one thing, chances are, I'll find a cartload of stuff that I "need". I realize that that is a problem with Self control... I used to get on the whole inhumane practices bandstand, but I got over that. Yeah 90% of their stuff is made in overseas countries by workers for a couple of dollars a day, but those people are darn glad to have those jobs. Anyways, Before you go to Walmart, check the thrift shops. Same thing at less than half the price. :)

the problem with atlanta is that thrift stores are picked over by hipsters with a fine toothed comb.

i am going up to the mountains though this weekend to my dad's retirement camp, and he just found out about an awesome flea market that is supposed to contain many vintage bikes.

hopefully i will find something there.

thanks for all the good advice yall.

I feel ya on the hipster problem. In fact it kinda puts me out because I was a thrift shop junky before it was cool... But that'll happen with anything that's a good idea. GOod luck on the flea market deal. Even if you don't find any cool bikes, you're bound to find some cool stuff. I love going through other people's junk. :D

Also, at walmart and kmart(sometimes) if all they have is the display bike, and none in their back room, sometimes the price goes down. NOt always, but sometimes. Display model discount or whatever...
