Tommy broke into his Dad's paint cabinet yesterday and sprayed the struts he found the day before.

Today he swung by Inwood Cycle on the way home from school and one of the mechanics that he and his Dad know gave him a deal on a used S2 front wheel they had laying in the parts pile.

Tommy got home from school today and he found a book his Dad had left for him about bike repair on the kitchen table called "Anybody's Bike Book." His Dad was telling him yesterday that he thought the best way to learn about his bike was to tear it all down and put it all back together again. This seemed a bit intimidating to old Tommy since he had never really been all that mechanically inclined. Even still, he really wanted to learn and he was excited about building his bike up to race so he decided he better dive in and absorb as much as he could.

Lovin this thread, way back we used to go drag some old rusty gents bike out of the dump, strip the rod brakes off, switch to cow horn bars and stick a pair of cheap knobbliest on, oh the memories :)

I remember getting Fruit Stripe gum, the flavor was awesome but lasted like 10 seconds and you were ready for another piece. Guess they sold more that way lol

The weekend is finally here and Tommy made some headway on the tear down. His Dad showed him some of the tricks like reverse threading on the crank and how to clean and repack bearings.

Tommy was hanging out at Stuart's house today and noticed he had an old Crest Deluxe 20 x 2.125" knobby tire hanging on the garage wall. It's just what he needed for the front wheel he just picked up.

Stuart told him he could have the tire if he'd help him wash his Mom's Plymouth Duster. Tommy agreed to the deal and couldn't wait to get home to get the tire mounted on his racing machine.
