I removed the parade bars but kept their fork mounts. They were counter acting the springs. The ride in garage was scary so didn’t get to street.
So version 2 and 3 with spring locations, better, still quite there.

That's quite a series of 'macro ' photos at the top of this page! That valve cap looks like an old gas tank globe.
Is your 'cow catcher' down low in front on a pivot so it can rotate up when it bottoms out on transitions? Otherwise the shopping trip might end up with Ed in the basket.

Yes the bottom of the basket is a concern yet to be dealt with, might get a rock hard panel.

A Schwinn Heavy Duty flea market find may interrupt the BasketCase progress for a while.

The Heavy Duty Schwinn requires a bunch of tweaks to get rideable. The main issue is in the rear hub. The brake shoes and clutch assembly were messed with by someone prior to me. The bike was basically a fixed gear SS. Somehow shoes weren’t seated and show some wear.
I’ll replace the shoes and clutch assembly. Changed out bars and grips. The kickstand is also wonky.
Probably a couple of weeks before I get back to BasketCase

Cool progress on figuring out the cart before the horse. It seams to me that moving the front wheel axle back closer to the rear of the cart might reduce the torque it places on the steering.
Saw this on FB today.
Did you try putting the bars on the cart and not the bike? That way you steer the cart and the bike follows, at least that is how it is working in my head right now.

Might just experiment with using the basket handle to steer…at my age I’ve learned to do things slowly and carefully.

Requires welding. Class one, just pushing the limits with bolts and mechanical fastening.

Experimented and tweaked a few things on BasketCase today. Took it down driveway to street…just dangerous. It rides, but spooky.
Without some cutting and welding I’m thinking it has defeated me. The shopping cart may become an off-road cart with two 24” back wheels with the original front casters.
As per the title it’s a basket case…

My guess is it's the trail from using that fork. In combination with the tiller effect of the bars and having the pivot that far behind an altered center of gravity.
Just a thought but could you keep the frame intact and work off the stock head tube into something similar to this?
There's a reason why you see most all tadpoles or cargo trikes like this with near or completely vertical steering axis

Well you inspired me to blow it all apart. Going to try the pivot set vertically using same pivot parts rotated to vertical. Need a few longer grade 8 bolts, will drill a few holes and do a little grinding to generate some sparks.
98 degrees here.
